The Value of Being a Media and Information Literate
It is through the media that you become informed about world leaders, world politics, federal leaders and federal politics, local leaders and local politics.
Some of what we are reading, viewing, and watching, is true. Some are not. Duterte Administration has somewhat changed the ways of Philippine Government . I’m sure that many politicians have the same gift. I think that I have read that Duterte is the one who ordered the Davao Death Squad. Is it true? Who knows? More importantly, why is it newsworthy because who cares? The media is also important for keeping you up to date with local current events.
When reading, watching, or listening to the media, you must be a critical reader. As you read the newspaper, watch the news, and listen to news flashes on the radio as you drive to work.
Without the media, not only would you miss out on wonderful entertainment such as listening to Celine Dion and watching the program The Voice, but you might also miss the newsflash that there is an earthquake on the other side.
You need to be also Information Literate (I’m assuming that you’re talking about being able to use a variety of devices and apps), because this is the medium of the future. As we can see that we need to know what is happening around us so we may know what are the new trends. This will also make us more wise to what is going on.
As for these days we can see that people can already upload books online and thus do not buy a hard copy of a book unless they particularly enjoy it or want to give it as a gift. There have been predictions that students of the future will be taught by robotic computers of some sort, and that human teachers will be obsolete.
It is essential that everybody who plans to move forward must have these informations.
In short - these are the ways that we receive, process, and send information in contemporary society.
