MILANO SUN - SCANDINAVIA

MILANO SUN is a Stockholm-based band, featuring Johan Jonasson on vocals and guitar, Love Sivik on bass and guitar, and David Axelsson on vocals, guitar, and keyboard. The three guys met on a trip around Europe in 2010, where the first stop was Milan, and began making music together in every city they visited. Since then, they released two singles, "Already Gone" and "Vertigo," and have just come out with the Scandinavia EP. In writing about their songs, the band says, "All songs hail from [the] rising sun, the feeling of melancholy and hope you often get when the sun rises early on a summer morning." Indeed, the EP's title track is just that - a number driven by Jonasson's longing vocals, minimal keyboards, and bass at the forefront of its verse melody, its true, brooding nature sometimes belied by a Balearic sense of sound, surf guitars, and burst-of-energy chorus reminiscent of The Mary Onettes best work. Much like what I remember the sun feeling like when I would first wake up during childhood summers, full of a joy for what the day will bring but ultimately realizing the day before, the past, that time, will never be again. The sun, this beautiful entity that gives warmth, helps our world turn, and sustains life, is also a reminder of our forward march. Watch the official video for "Scandinavia" below. It is spooky and technically flawless for a black-and-white clip. I also really, really want their sunglasses.
