Living With Music or Dying With Noise
A few months ago we featured a piece about Ralph Ellison's distaste of modern Jazz. Possibly attributed to the generational divide between Ellison and the more contemporary musicians of the time, Ralph Ellison was not only a writer of classic American literature but originally a musician of the same genre. In his most fantastic piece of writing, Invisible Man, jazz music is prominently featured. A lesser known yet extensive piece of writing on jazz by Ellison is named Living with Music: Ralph Ellison's Jazz Writings. Any avid jazz music listener should have this book on their bookshelves.
