I know it’s Canon but why do the color auras have to be opposed to each other? Don’t they all come from the Slate? Doesn’t that mean the Slate essentially opposes itself?
Not necessarily, in my opinion, although I will agree with you that the Slates are capricious and their workings are difficult to determine -- or that could just be GORA’s shitty inconsistent writing.
At any rate, the fact that the Kings’ powers oppose one another doesn’t necessarily imply contradiction within the Slate. If you think of it in terms of overall balance, then it would make sense that a chaotic aura like Mikoto’s Red is balanced by Reisi’s orderly Blue. Or that Green change is opposed to Silver eternity. Because this means that no one Aura can overwhelm the others -- like checks and balances, if you will.
That being said, this could be a bad read on my part and maybe the Slates really are just contradictory, capricious asshole artifacts? There’s nothing in canon that says the Slates must be consistent.
