“Cheque Frauds Charged To Men,” Toronto Globe. June 23, 1931. Page 13. ---- M. B. Hefferman, and George O. Lang Are Arrested ---- Arrested yesterday in Walkerton, M. B. Hefferman will be brought here today by Detective Alexander on a warrant charging him with obtaining a mimeograph machine valued at $180 by fraud from the Stephen Sales Company, 94 Adelaide Street West. The machine was bought on May 14 and Heffferman is alleged to have tendered a cheque for which, police said, he had no funds to his credit in the bank.
George O. Lang, Victoria Street, was arrested last night by Constable Munro (549) on a warrant charging him with obtaining $25 by fraud from the Bank of Montreal, Bloor and Lansdowne branch. Lang is alleged to have cashed a cheque for which there were no funds in the account the cheque was drawn on.
Detectives Storm and Sullivan arrested Harold Gilkinson, a collector, living at 28 Langley Avenue, on a charge of stealing $50 he is alleged to have collected for Bert Humphrey, 583 Church Street.
Fullerton College Library: Part of the General Office Training Program was training in the use of a mimeograph machine, the precursor to the photocopy machine. Office practice also included instruction in the operation of the varitype, electromatic typewriter, addressograph, checkwriter, and Multilith Duplicator.
