A door clicked open then shut, gingerly. Boots were taken off, set quietly by the door. You recognized the movements in your haze of sleep, quiet hums and coos echoing from the direction of the foyer.
You scrunched your eyelids tighter, mumbling under your breath. You weren’t exactly ready to be awake. You weren’t sure what time it was, but all the same you snuggled deeper into the cushions and blankets of the couch.
You laid for sometime longer, half-awake and half-aware of the ambient sounds that echoed through the apartment. What truly woke you was the soft fingers that brushed over the apples of your cheeks.
“Dove,” Keigo’s sweet voice washed over you. “Were you waiting for me?”
You made a little ‘mhm’ sound, cracking open your eyes, quickly squinting from the glow of the still-on TV. Despite this, you smiled.
Keigo was finally home.
He chuckled, something warm like the feel of the blankets you were burrowed in. You melted into his touch, the contact soothing after he’d been away for so long.
“That’s very sweet of you, you know, waiting for me and all.” Keigo leaned to press a soft kiss to your forehead. “Better be careful, or I might start thinking that you like me or something.”
“Keigo,” Your voice cracked with sleep. “We’re married.”
You both looked at the others ring, a pair of near matching bands.
Keigo beamed, dragging you from the couch to pull you into his arms. A few of his remaining feathers carried your nest of blankets in tow to the bedroom.
He carefully set you onto the comforter, allowing you to adjust as needed.
“It is sweet of you to stay up for me, dove, but I don’t want you losing sleep over it.” Keigo peeled off his comfy t-shirt, falling onto the bed next to you.
“I’m not sure if you noticed, sweetheart, but I was very much not losing sleep just now,” You hummed, snorting as Keigo rolled his eyes. His hair was damp, still shining from the shower he must’ve taken while you were half-awake.
Keigo was especially pretty when he was relaxed and at home. He rarely wore much of anything in the safety and comfort of the apartment, but even bundled up, he was gorgeous. It was something about the lack of tension in his shoulder once the his professional facade had lifted that calm you the most. Seeing him soften and allow himself to be soft was a gift that only you had the pleasure of viewing.
“Doooove,” Keigo grinned impishly from his spot on the bed. “You were staring.”
“I was.” You replied cheekily, adjusting to lay next to him on the bed. “I missed you.”
“I miss you too.”
Keigo quickly pulled your hands together, fingers lacing together. Despite the gloves he wore with his hero costume, Keigo’s hands were always a bit worn and chapped by the cold. You thumbed at the juncture between his thumb and pointer, noting the deepening cracks and callouses.
Keigo, fast as ever, tugged you close. You were sure that if he had anymore of his wings left, he would’ve wrapped the two of you in the plumage to be safe and warm for the rest of the night. But, all he had were stubs, but you were more than happy to settle for any touch of his.
You settled yourself on the pillow, tucking yourself to Keigo’s chest as he linked your legs together in a quick tangle. He tended to be comically clingy upon arriving back home from missions, but you didn’t mind. You were sure that if he wasn’t pouncing on you, you’d be clambering all over him.
You tipped your head up, dropping a warm kiss to Keigo’s, the roughness of his hands tickling settling at your hips and waist. It was almost too easy to relax into him, fall into his hold as you had so many times before. There were many late nights that, upon Keigo’s return, would end stickier, hotter ways. Those nights were some of your favorites. Keigo tended to get a bit... feral after not being able to indulge you and indulge in you, and he more than made up for when he was able to.
But, there were plenty of early mornings back that Keigo would just hold you to him, as tight and close as he could. You’d grip him right back, just as you were. You pressed a few stray kisses to his jaw, a few soft coos clicking from his throat.
Sleep pulled at your eyelids quickly, as much as you didn’t want it to, body fighting for wakefulness.
Keigo’s hand smoothed down your back, soft hushing rolling over you as Keigo squeezed you closer.
“It’s alight, dove, get some sleep. We both need some rest.”
You nodded, pausing for a moment before speaking.
“Will you be here?”
You didn’t just mean for that next morning.
Keigo pulled the covers to your shoulders, smothering your crown in kisses, “Always, dove. Always.”
