January 2013 recap: Mind of Dan text posts
The blog is getting busy now and it can be easy to lose track of some of the text posts between all the great .gif images I reblog from the tumblrs I follow. This recap will feature links to the most popular articles, and a quick summary of each.
(Please reblog these monthly recaps if you follow me, or like any of my articles, I am still new to tumblr and am trying to build my audience. Thank you to all my early supporters!)
(note: Some December articles will be included in this update, as no monthly recap existed last month)
The Time for Ammo Control is Now — this was posted in the days following the Newtown tragedy, and is a fairly serious article inspired by a Chris Rock comedy bit. Dec. 19
Walking Dead (Telltale Games) Game Review — Since posting this review I’ve learned the game is available on other platforms, including iPhones. Highly recommended if you are a fan of storytelling, drama and personal emotional investment. You do not need to be a video game fan, or even a Walking Dead fan to appreciate this game. Buy it! Dec.30
Decline of Western Civilization Part 1: Life-Savers Storybook — A travesty the degradation this fine product endured over the years. (Fun “clickthrough” links with hover-over clues) Dec. 31
NHL Fan Silent Protest — This is my most popular post so far, but largely irrelevant now. The success for this idea, is that a 10-20 hit per day blog posted an idea that was seen or heard about by people from all over North America, a featured on Vancouver television with a live in studio interview. Tumblr reblogs were the first things to help get this ball rolling, and many of my current @ThatDanDeresh twitter followers and tumblr followers joined me because of this post, I am very thankful for your support and friendship! Jan. 3
This is 40: A Zero-Spoiler Review — This is still playing in a few theaters and worth checking out if your are in the target demographic age group. Check it out when it arrives on the home market if your age strays a bit further from 40, the year you do turn 40, this movie should be mandatory rite-of-passage viewing. Lots of fun “clickthrough” links in this article, read the hover-over text to prevent unwanted surprises! Jan. 6
Lay off Luongo — A defense of the player I believe to be the best goalie to wear a Canucks uniform. The city of Vancouver turned on him unfairly. Do you think he should be remembered as better than “King” Richard Brodeur and Kirk McLean? Equal to? Jan. 12
Game On! — The NHL season starts and #sharethesilence did not achieve the market penetration necessary to make it happen. But the exercise was not futile. Read this obituary for an idea to see why I’m still happy with what it achieved. Jan.19
Songs That Can Make Me Cry: Moonshadow, Cat Stevens — Just in case the hockey testosterone was in danger of taking over the blog, here’s some sensitive moments I’ll share. Reblog the link to this one with the title of a song that makes you cry, if its a match for me, I’ll write that song interpretation next. Jan 20
Cigarette Ashtray Economics — Saw a guy pick a butt out of an ashtray, how is that a metaphor for Republican economic strategy? Read this short post to see what I saw. Jan.22
Again, please reblog this post if you follow my feed and appreciate my posts. I am trying to transition from a life of retail back toward writing full-time and anything you can do to help my writing reach a larger audience is greatly appreciated. Thank you! =)
