Helm of the Mindship, the system hopper my fantroll Pegasi Hileva is helmsman for.
Pegasi hooks into the middle column, the other pilots she takes from other ships are in the five columns around the sides of the room. Occasionally the ship has to grow a new column when a new pilot that is still capable of surviving outside of the helm is brought into her hivemind collective, but otherwise, the helmsmen that can’t exist on their own are kept in a room underneath the helm that is shielded and protected better than Troll Fort Knox, and Pegasi takes care of them and gives them everything they could ever need there, including a virtual world where they can live as close to troll as is possible.
also: headcanon: pilot -> physical body of the troll that is plugged into the system and provides the power for the ship. helmsman -> mental aspect of the troll that deals with all the computer aspects of running a ship, and exists in the programming/cyber space. In the case of the Mindship, the pilots are all distinct trolls with their own personalities, but then join together into a collective as the helmsman that works a lot faster and better, and has a lot less personality. After leaving the hivemind, the pilot retains most of the shared experiences, but is still a unique individual.
