Y’all listen the fuck up: I found a way to make bats useful in minecraft
You know potions, right? Well, what if a drop from the bats was to be used as a potion item? My proposal is that there is a chance for a bat to drop a “bat wing” when killed.
What potion would this bat wing be used for? Sound blocking. Hear me out: Bats use echolocation to communicate because they’re blind as hell, right? If we create a potion that will mute your sounds and steps, you would be able to traverse through the deep depths without too much trouble (and you can dodge a friend’s prank)
But this idea seems a bit too OP, right? So here are some of the things I’ve thought about to lessen the effect: The drop of a bat wing is rare, like the drop rate of blaze rods or enderpearls (rarer, even.)
“but why don’t you add downsides to the potion?” You see, the only thing I thought of that could make this potion have a downside is the fact that you can still be heard mining blocks and etc. This idea would already be debunked because it would basically be like shifting (crouching) except you can move faster.
Honestly, i think this would be a really good potion to have for sneaking around combined with invisibility and shit
This really just came to my mind while I was thinking about how to make bats useful, and everything clicked in place with enough time. It’s probably OP and dumb but it’s a stretch lmao
Personal headcannons i have about the DreamSMP members and what type of potions they drink!
Dream is always drinking speed pots as a way to cope with his ADHD; since modern medicine hasn’t been invented yet, and that’s the closest he’ll get. He discovers that he thinks clearer with the potion, though the experiment in how he found out was completely accidental. (Side note; Sam does not provide Dream with speed potions in prison).
George drinks night vision potions whenever he plans on staying up the whole night, its how he manages to trick his brain to stay active so he doesn't fall asleep. (Sometimes he’ll bum a speed potion off of Dream, not that Dream hasn’t noticed). Since meeting DreamXD, George avoided drinking anymore potions, afraid of the side effects on his mental health.
Sapnap has a natural resistance to heat, that’s to his upbringing that Bad gave him, so whenever he drinks fire resistance, it only have a minor effect on him. Everyone always says how the potion leaves a burnt-cream aftertaste, but Sapnap doesn't seem to mind it. (The potion always provides a homesick feeling for Sapnap, mainly due to his current estranged relationship with BBH).
Karl began drinking slowness potions as a way to cope with his loss of memory each instance he time traveled. He had hoped the slowness effect would make it so he kept his memories (or at least, forget them slower), but it didn’t work, and Karl ended up abandoning the project. He’ll occasionally come across slowness potions hidden in his house, and wonders how they got there.
Tommy, after being revived and released from prison, loaded up his inventory with regeneration and slow falling potions, to provide him with some comfort after his traumatic experience. Eventually, he didn’t need to use them anymore, but still keeps one or two safe in his pocket. (Additionally, he loves spending time brewing, the sounds and smells making him feel safe and at home).
Tubbo doesn’t feel the need to drink potions often, but when he does, he’ll often drink jump boost potions, using it to bounce up to Ranboo’s height (always a trick his husband laughs at), and make him feel like a carefree kid again, without worry. When Tubbo brings Michael on visits to the Nether, he always drinks a fire resistance potion, just in case.
Ghostbur specifically, used to drink water breathing potions; not because he spent a lot of time in the water, but because he liked to watch the blue bubbles rise off of his skin. (He also, in part, thought the potion provided him with water immunity (it didn’t)). Much like Tommy, he’d spend his free time brewing potions at Techno’s house, fondly reminiscing of memories of the Drug Van.
Philza, much like the boy Tubbo, drinks plenty of jump boost potions (more than he’d like to admit). In part, because the jump boost effect gives him the closest feeling to flying he’ll ever get again, after his wings were badly destroyed in the L’Manberg explosion. (Technoblade noticed his friends potion habits, and always tends to leave a spare jump boost potion in his brewing stands).
bro she doesnt care about you she cares about memorising all the minecraft brewing recipes
And here is the finished brewing building!!!
After my banner cheat sheet took off, have my brewing cheat sheet too.
You know what would be a really cool minecraft mechanic?
The potential for potions to go Wrong in a way other than just not working or canceling out.
Consider: you try and add too much glowstone to a potion, and it overpowers and explodes.
Fucked up your fire res? It is now a potion of fire, and it's already burning part of your base.
You got the recipe for invisibility wrong? Good luck finding your brewing stand until it wears off.
It has so much potential and I cannot believe nothing has been done with this. Like I can't even think of any mods that do this stuff.
