Adding unnecessary lore to Crush Crush because world building is fun

Part 1; Brie's planet

First off her outfit, which she's also wearing on the moon when you meet her, implies her people are capable of withstanding the temperature of our moon, which can drop to below -200° and above 250°, source. So I think her planet can also get that hot or cold

Speaking of biology, they can produce 4 babies at one time at minimum, seeing that Brie has 56 siblings

The average Rodentian lives to be around 300

I'm aware they're so obsessed with cheese because they're mice, but I like to think it's because cows and sheep are the most abundant creatures on Rodentia. Their diet doesn't really consist of a lot of meat, but the meat the do eat is from bugs (because mice eat them)

Brie mentions that spice is rare on her planet. Most spices probably can't grow there very well. But it does grow well on Loola's planet

Which they're actively in a violent dispute with

Ship pilots and space explorers are required to learn many languages across the galaxy and that's why Brie knows english

They're also trained to avoid our planet at all costs after they got a hold of several alien movies such as Independence Day

They have a heavily matriarchal society because why not

Earth's mice in this world originated from Rodentia when a ship landed there thousands of years ago and several mice that snuck onto the ship were left there

Her people are very wealthy because Rodentia produces loads of copper, silver and gold

Mice on Rodentia are like primates on earth. They're the closest living ancestors to Rodentians but can be seen as pests in certain regions, particularly to farmers

I have a question for the science nerds of creative writing -if I wanted to make at least one planet with conditions habitable to humans and the aliens that live there, but that isn't Earth, what small changes could I make to the atmosphere's properties (chemical composition, thickness, gravity, etc etc) that would make the planet alien, but still habitable?

This is a Project Hail Mary crossover and Ryland Grace is a molecular biologist so details like "is the planet's chemical composition safe for human/Eridian/alien cat consumption", "what chemical compositions are dangerous for x alien that we wouldn't think of and why", and "how much heat can this atmosphere retain as the sun starts dying" are actually relevant.

The Sambé (Sambo sambo) is a species that is the closest living relateive to the Ewok (being in the same order), characterised by its serpentine body and two heads that are at opposite sides. It is about 2 (half a meter) ft long in diameter, and upwards of 6 (1 meter) ft in length.

Contrary to what you might think, the one at the supposed tail does not serve as an anus. Instead, both individuals use part of their feces as venom, and the rest passes through a hole in the underbelly resembling a navel, used as fertiliser for the Maga moss.

They share only one opening hole, where both eggs and fecal matter leave. But how do they fertilise if there is no opening for that?

By taking in semen-like liquid and eggs from fellow Sambas, where they store it in a small sac and then use it to fertilise their eggs. This ensures they have a year-round supply of it, especially in times of famine where they must feed. They do it by fertilising eggs and then eating them—of which they lay over 30 million a year

This makes them exceptionally hardy, able to live long years feeding solely off their reproductive capabilities.

They are also able to regenerate anything below one head, but this means they become singular as the rest of the body begins forming a false head, which has no consciousness and is exclusively controlled by the now singular individual.

This results in depression and muscle weakness, because they need the other head to socialise. This is where the majority of social behaviour comes, and they may spend long days solely interacting with each other, and even neglecting basic needs such as food.

They are exclusively terrestrial, and like the Ewok, absolutely terrible at swimming. This limits them to land where they may be scooped away by fliers, which is where their serpentine body comes to the rescue.

Their body is highly flexible, and as long as their beak can fit in, so can the rest of their body. This means they can squeeze and go through holes as small as the average Homo sapien’s hand.

Looking at the press kit for Planet 51 from 2011. The "summer all year 'round" combined with "arid, hot desert surrounding lush towns" makes me think the planet is tide locked, similar to how Yautja Prime is... which implies one side of Planet 51 is always summer (the side we see in the movie) and the other side is always winter. Which begs more questions: do people live on the dark side? If so, how does their culture differ? If not, how does the population sustain itself by living on one side of a planet?

The Moga gum is a unique species of plant mainly living underwater, but an individual has colonised the shores of the Moga Island, amassing a size of 20 kms. They remain the second-largest and also the oldest, being estimated at a whopping 5,000 years old.

They have become a plentiful resource for nearby Paratas (pictured, one eating the gum) to healthily wear their jaws away—whatever that means—and munch while on the migration.

The taste is.. terrible. It is sweet and sour in all the horrible ways, something that the tongue actively resists. However, it acts similarly to weeds such as marijuana, inciting highs.

Despite having tongues, paratas are incapable of distinguishing good food from something that is borderline inedible, actively choosing to feed on this and not receiving any side effects that would have made it slightly enjoyable.

But is is very healthy, often eaten by mothers to later regurgitate in their children’s mouth—with all the nutrients extracted to feed the kids.

Do not try eating it, let alone touching it, because it is incredibly sticky and if you are stuck in it, we will not care to save you.

You should know better than to jump on a massive ball of gum.

Oxanets (Pinvitoa magnota) are the largest species of animal that occupy land. They live on the largest archipelago, which is the Moga Islands, named as such because one of the largest organisms ever recorded—a colony of moss-like seaweed stretching 100 kilometres (62 miles)—occupies it.

Although they have the capability of eating meat from, they mainly feed on Moga moss alongside herbipiscides (class of fish-like organisms with insides resembling plants), making them herbivores. They will only eat meat in famines.

Males are considerably bigger and have a large sail, while females are smaller but lead entire groups. Their social hierarchy operates on a basis where the oldest females lead, and the older males are second—taking care of her pups.

In the case the matriarch dies, the oldest male will temporarily take lead until a new female is chosen. Groups may combine with others either temporarily or permanently, although the hierarchy remains the same.

Pups are born year-round, although births spike up in summers and springs and fall in the winter and autumn. The mothers will begin producing a substance resembling milk, described by scientists as tasting “so fucking good […] as sweet as chocolate”

They wean after 1 Tx-199 year (or 2 Earth years) and begin eating Moga moss. They reach adulthood in 6 more years, in which case the males will leave the group and either create their own or move to another.

The females have a lifespan of 40 years, while the males have 38. For both sexes, the mortality rates are high in the first year alone and most never survive past a few months due to extensive predation.

Research suggests that breeding hypercarnivorous Oxanets is possible, but 2:1 male-to-female ratio will occur. The reason as to why is unknown, and no links have been found yet.

The Xypi (Piscivade shara), pronounced Shī-vĩ, is an alien resembling a mola-mola. It uses a large eye-like splotch with a black dash resembling a pupil for camouflage.

Unlike other piscivades, it swims backwards. What is the small hole on its supposed front is actually an anus, and the mouth is located just between the fins. It filter feeds on plankton and other small organisms, but has the capability of eating manmade debris without problems.

They mate in the spring, grouping into massive swarms in tropical equators far from their homes in the cold poles.

They give live birth to an estimated 200,000 babies each season per individual, although most of them die before reaching adulthood.

The babies are born a mere 2 centimetres (1 inch), but grow rapidly to a whopping 10 metres (32~ ft) in a matter of 6 Earth years, which is the time taken to reach adulthood.

Unfortunately, they do not live longer than their intended lifespan, which is 20 years. The oldest was reported only to be 25. Their ages are calculated by the small rings on their upper fins, in which one grows for each cycle around Sol-8 that Tx-199 makes—lasting exactly 2 Earth years.

They can live up to two full decades. Like other piscivades and the entirety of Piscidae in general, they keep their fertility throughout their entire lives and only lose it in times of heavy and rapid stress.

Attempts to keep them in captivity have gone surprisingly well, especially when paired with other animals. This may reflect their social hierchary, where the largest females lead the swarms. It may also have to do with stimulation.

They also survive fine solely on manmade debris, although it is advised not to use them as cleaning machines as they do not thrive well and need varied diets.

It is also advised not to keep them in captivity, as the costs of feeding them while on transport outweighs the general public’s interest—who wants to see an alien mola mola with an ass for a mouth, anyways?

The Nyroom (Pseudocetacidi megafaurnis) is the largest animal lifeform, characterised by its unusually familiar body akin to that of a baleen whale and four flippers. Its tail ends with a shark-like tip, and it eats plankton.

Unlike Earthly cetaceans, the Nyroom show no interest in socialisation. They live mainly solitary lives, but will congregate in tropical areas when the need to mate arises.

They lay eggs that are a few inches wide, with small pups inside protected by a thick and strong barrier of yolk-like material.

They are often born with no pigments, making them completely white. They gain colour by eating their food.

Below is one of the mentioned eggs.

Their external “gills” are extremely prominent to hide the underdeveloped breathing system till it finishes, in which case the child immediately breaks out of the yolk.

They are laid in environments with the most algae. Some of their behaviour is unknown due to their elusive behaviour, hiding under the water and generally being shy and neophobic (afraid of new things)

They display no physical sexual dimorphism.
