The Day Before Yesterday I Made a Huge 48craft Archival Breakthrough
As of last Wednesday, I have found the seed and my own screenshots of a somewhat obscure Minecraft server event called 48craft, Season 3 that happened in 2020, which has basically become lost media on the surface web. I will try to make a separate post soon which shares all screenshots I took while on the server, now that I finally know where they are.
First, the seed, and then a biography on the design and catastrophic mishandling for the dozens of followers I have who don't have any idea what 48craft is.
The 48craft season in question took place on a Beta 1.8.1 world with the seed Splode or -1811986111. Here's a reconstruction of the seed generation in 2025. It's a pretty good one.
What 48craft Actually Is
Once upon a time, in March 2020, a server named 48craft had already been established, and its owners decided to do a world season on Beta 1.8. They had already done two seasons before, and every season was a limited time span full-anarchy world for a small group of interested players, if they saw the link on Reddit and decided they wanted to be a part of it, based on one old version of Minecraft or another. The idea was to see what would get built, or at least, what would happen.
I missed Season 1 completely, joined Season 2 but failed to get anything done under hostile destructive conditions and missed a lot, and took serious initiative to take part in Season 3's Beta 1.8.1 world for a while before running out of inspiration and giving up. It's Minecraft SMP no-rules gameplay, we all know that results in some people being dicks.
I could fill a whole separate post angrily ranting about how the history of this server was erased, and at some point I probably will. But for now, let's keep it simple and brief. 48craft's organizers used to have YouTube videos and Reddit posts, but for some reason they've clearly self-deleted. No substantial history on the main web still exists. Go on, go to a search engine and look up "Minecraft 48craft". You will not find pictures and real data on it. Try DuckDuckGo first, I tested it and Google is even worse.
I don't know if they still have a Discord server for 48craft, somewhere out there, or if that hypothetical Discord server has intel, but if they do then frankly that makes it far worse. If it's only on Discord, it's not worthy. This is The Internet, shit ain't supposed to be locked away in somebody's Discord channels.
I had a pretty significant role in 48craft Season 3, I'd say. This was before I had any inkling of personally modding Beta 1.8, but given my tastes I jumped on the opportunity at the time, and the seed used for the world was actually suggested by me. I had gone into Beta 1.8 singleplayer prior to the event starting and scouted for good looking worlds. In the end, I found -1811986111, and they used it.
Seasons 1 and 2 of 48craft are still super lost, but this week I scored a victory over archive callousness and the passage of time. I will be one of the sole distributors of something, anything to do with Season 3 of this event server, and I will make sure that my own screenshots, at least, will be accessible.
