RainCity is Vancity (Vancouver BC)
I am from Vancouver, my name is Corrina, and I love how much it rains in my hometown. I am one of those people that is just the absolute happiest, when it is raining. I can’t explain it. I feel it. Soaked to the bone in my rain drenched soul I carry my own weather with me.
Vancouver is an atmospheric city. Skies often the colour of lead; roiling with a misty-hued intensity. I love Jericho and Locarno beachfronts on gloomy November days. Kits beach in all seasons beckons. Not in the light but in the dark and the wet; abandoned. Calling to my core, like a sentient being; saying: “walk with me. Be with me. I am yours. I hate sunlight. Let me just put that out there. I love the dark, and the downpour. The storm. Intense, brooding, solitary state of existence. That is what I live for. Vancouver delivers.
Since this is not a formal essay I don’t have to play by ANY of the rules. I can wander from topic to topic at will. This brings me to another topic: the food in Vancouver! You could eat in a different restaurant every night for years on end. I have done this very thing, throughout my childhood and in later years.
Some of my favourite restaurants and eateries in Vancouver include: Stepho’s in the West End. Minerva’s in Kerrisdale (near where I grew up) La Casa Gelato in Strathcona 248 flavours. The NAAM in Kits, Aphrodities Organic Cafe in Kits (Legendary Pie.) Sophie’s Cosmic Cafe in Kits. The Revolving Restaurant in Downtown. Lee’s Donuts in Granville Island. There are more but these were some of my favourites growing up. I also love Asian food including sushi. Vancouver has the best bars and nightclubs. Many sadly shut down during the pandemic. The commodore ballroom (an Art Deco gem) Celebrities, the Odyssey, and a myriad of others. People from almost every nation flock to our city as a cultural hub. I don’t need citations; look it up on Wikipedia or Google if you don’t believe me.
