Subin stirred in his sleep, a gentle warmth brushing against his cheek. Something soft… comforting… and familiar.
His heart stirred before his mind did, and then a quiet meow slipped into his ears, followed by a small giggle, one he would never, ever get tired of.
“Morning…” he whispered, voice rough and low from sleep, as he opened his eyes.
The first thing he saw was you, sitting on the edge of the bed with a familiar bundle of fluff cradled in your arms.
You giggled again, leaning down to press a kiss to his lips, smiling against them.
“Morning. I was going to wake you up myself, but she insisted on joining me.”
You tilted your head toward the cat, stroking the soft fur. “She couldn’t wait to see her dad.”
Subin’s lips curved faintly, warmth pooling in his chest. He reached out, brushing his fingers through Mimi’s fur. The cat purred immediately, leaning into his touch. He let out a quiet laugh, his thumb stroking behind her ear.
But then his gaze shifted back to you, his hand slipping past Mimi to find you instead, tugging gently until you toppled beside him on the bed. His other arm wrapped around your waist, pulling you closer against his chest.
“Didn’t the mom want to see me too?” he murmured, feigning a pout as he pressed his forehead lightly against yours. “I’d be sad if she didn’t…” His lips brushed a feather-soft kiss against your cheek.
Your soft laugh filled the room, making his chest tighten.
“Of course I did. I missed you too. We both did,” you teased, voice playful but warm, before lifting Mimi up above you, cooing, “Isn’t that right, baby? You missed him too, didn’t you?”
The cat let out a soft meow in response, and you laughed, eyes crinkling as you nuzzled her little nose before cuddling her back into your chest.
Subin watched the scene, his eyes softening.
The morning light filtered gently through the curtains, painting you and Mimi in a soft glow. The sound of your laugh, the way Mimi purred happily against you, the warmth of your body leaning into his, it all settled into him, deeper than he could explain.
He smiled, reaching up to tuck a strand of hair behind your ear before pressing another kiss to your temple. You two were too adorable for him to handle.
His heart felt so light, so full, it almost ached.
He didn’t think he could ever get tired of this, of waking up to you, of your laughter, of Mimi’s tiny meows, of the way his world felt brighter just like this. No, he was already in too deep.
And he never wanted to pull away.
