Chimney was going to scream.
During their 24 hour shit, Chimney decided at hour thirteen to go off to the bunk room for some rest. The shift so far hasn’t been bad. Yes, there was constant calls but the calls were pretty mild.
Cat stuck in the tree, small kitchen fire at a restaurant, wellness checks for elderly neighbors who hadn’t been seen in a few days.
But the calls kept coming in and Chimney was tired. It didn’t help to have a toddler at home, who decided waking up in the middle of the night to escape her bedroom to create total chaos.
So, he was the first to settle down for a nap. He probably got a nice hour in the bunk room to himself before Hen and Eddie made their ways in, both also crawling into their bunks and closing their eyes. Bobby followed in not to long after.
Chimney didn’t mind having those three in the bunk room with him. They all knew and respected the unspoken rule in the bunk room to be quiet and allow others to sleep.
It was Buck ventured into the room closer to hour fifteen, when Chimney started to grow mad. Because as much as he loves his co-worker, the man who is practically a little brother to him; it annoyed Chimney so much on how the man simply could not just lay down and fall asleep.
Where Hen, Eddie, and Bobby remained all asleep as Buck huffed and puffed, tossing and turning in his bunk; Chimney remained laid out on his back, glaring at the ceiling as the noises Buck was making was keeping him awake.
If the alarm bell rang before Chimney got any sleep, the urge to strangle his girlfriend’s little brother was strong for the older man.
Hearing Buck throw his body around into a different position once more had Chimney brining both hands up to cover his face to stop himself from actually screaming.
Hearing more shifting that sounded distant from where Buck was had Chimney removing his hands from his face and opening his eyes. A quick swoop across the dark room had him noticing that Eddie has lifted his head over his shoulder, from where he laid facing the wall.
“Buck.” Eddie whispered, hoping Buck would hear it from the space between them. With no response, Chimney watched Eddie look around the room before his eyes went back to Buck. “Buck!” He spoke louder, yet quiet enough not to wake anyone.
Both Eddie and Chimney watched Buck snore himself awake, sitting up on his elbows as he blinks his eyes open. “Wha- huh?”
Eddie looked around the room again before nodded his head towards the wall next to him. “C’mere.”
That’s when Chimney realized that Eddie assumed he was asleep, because he just knew that was something Eddie wouldn’t typically say when anyone else was conscious enough to hear.
Chimney watched as Buck threw his covers off himself, smacking his lips together as he sluggishly slipped his feet across the floor as he passed the few beds that separated him from Eddie.
Eddie raised his own covers, unmoving from where he laid out on his side as Buck shuffled over to him. Chimney could make out in the dark that Buck’s eyes were closed by the time he placed his left knee on Eddie’s bunk, and swung his other leg around his best friend- leaving his left leg thrown over Eddie’s hip as he settled down.
Chimney could only watch in both shock, and amusement as Eddie adjusted the blanket over his already asleep best friend, then settled back down himself.
Some more rustling noises were heard as Eddie wrapped his arms around Buck, nuzzling his face into Buck’s curls and placing a kiss where his mouth was before falling back asleep.
Chimney found himself with his head raised up, staring at how easily the man who was just tossing and turning like crazy settled. He allowed himself just a moment more to grasps the idea of Eddie calming Buck down by cuddling before placing his own head down and closing his eyes.
He made a mental note to ask Maddie, Hen, and Bobby if they knew if any new relationship status’ between the two firefighters as he finally got to get his much needed rest.

“Eddie, both Hen and Chimney looked me over three times each. I will be fine.” Buck fought yet made no move to stop Eddie from checking his injuries over himself.
“Shut up and let me look.” Eddie muttered, carefully helping Buck sit down on the bench in the locker room. Buck couldn’t control his wince in time as he lowered himself, making Eddie chuckled. “Yeah, I’m taking my look.”
Buck sighed, closing his eyes and letting Eddie move his head to look at the bruising that’s taking over the side of Buck’s face. Eddie soon walked away, Buck made no move to open his eyes or to stand up since he knew Eddie would be right back.
Buck was right, Eddie was back at Buck’s side pretty much as soon as he left. Fingers gently curved around his chin, tilting his head up before a warm, wet cloth was dapping on his skin, removing soot. Buck hummed to himself as Eddie worked to clean his face and neck, enjoying the gentle feel of Eddie’s fingers guiding his head around.
The sound of the wet cloth getting thrown into the hamper had Buck opening his eyes, looking up to see Eddie carefully undoing Buck’s turnout coat. He realized Eddie had taken his own gear off sometime within the last few minutes as Eddie opened his coat.
Buck helped the most he could, Eddie doing most of the work to gently peel the coat off Buck’s body. Buck hissed as his bruised shoulder moved slightly, Eddie was quick to stop and give Buck a second before removing the coat all together.
“You know, you can just stay for the rest of your shift. You don’t have to leave early just because I am.” Buck tried, feeling bad that Eddie would be losing out on a few hours at work just for him.
“You just feel through a burning floor, Buck.” Eddie shook his head. “I’m going with you.”
“I’ll be fine, Eds. I’ll take pain relief and I’ll go straight to bed. I’ll manage for a few hours.”
Eddie chuckled as he moved to help Buck remove his turnout pants, careful of whatever bruises Buck now has on his legs. “You’re going to need more than just pain relief, Buck. Ice, maybe some ointment cream, and definitely some food. I think you’re forgetting how sick you get if you take some pain relief with an empty stomach.”
“I don’t get that sick.” Buck groaned.
“You threw up for hours, Buck.” Eddie laughed as he moved to gather their work bags and his car keys. “Then the sight of your own throw up made you throw up even more.”
“Yeah, yeah, yeah. You just love to bring that up.” Buck rolled his eyes, a smile spreading across his face until it made his facial bruising twinge in pain.
Buck whined with a pout, Eddie laughed fully as he threw a bag over each shoulder.
“Alright, come on. Let’s get you home.”
Eddie wrapped Buck’s arm around his neck, the one that didn’t have a bruised shoulder, and slowly helped Buck stand. Eddie held him tight as they carefully made it to Eddie’s truck.
“I don’t like falling through floors, Eds.” Buck pouted as Eddie leaned over him to buckle the seatbelt.
“I know you don’t.” Eddie placed a gentle kiss to Buck’s forehead before closing the passenger door.

okay this one is a little bit longer but thank you for curing my boredom!! this is the best way for me to feel accomplished about writing and posting without creating a full plot 😂
Eddie wasn’t asleep, but he was very close to it. With Christopher tucked into bed, Eddie didn’t bother pretending to need to stay up for much longer. He decided to just make sure every door and window was locked, all lights off (besides for the nightlight in the bathroom), and made his way to his bed. The dishes from dinner tonight can wait until tomorrow.
So now, there Eddie was. He has been curled up in his bed now for probably about two hours. He had finally found his comfort spot, and tucked his blanket perfectly over his shoulder and under his chin, moments away from being blissfully asleep.
He had heard a door silently creak open, and some light shuffling noises in the hall. If Eddie was anymore awake, he would make the effort to get up and make sure everything was okay. But right now he was content with the knowledge that Christopher was probably using a midnight bathroom break.
The door to his bedroom opened quietly, and soon his perfect blanket placement was being disturbed by someone lifting an edge.
“Hmm?” Eddie hummed with his eyes closed, expecting his son to crawl into his bed. But the amount of weight that was placed on the empty side couldn’t have possibly been Christopher.
“Shh, shh. Go back to sleep. It’s okay.”
Eddie peaked an eye open slowly, watching as Buck lay himself down under Eddie’s blanket and replacing it back down exactly how Eddie likes it. This time, now covering both men from the chin below.
“Buck?”
“Shhh.” Buck shushed, closing his eyes. “Sleep.”
“What are you doing here?” Eddie asked, picking his head up, watching Buck nuzzle into the same pillow Eddie’s head was on.
“Had a bad dream.” Buck whispered, reaching a hand up to Eddie’s tee shirt under the blanket to tug him back down.
Eddie went down with a huff. Not expecting to be dragged down. That’s how Eddie found himself back in his original position, only now he has his best friend curling up in his chest now.
“W-what?”
Buck sighed, repositioning his head on the shared pillow to look up to Eddie. “I had a nightmare and didn’t want to be alone. We can talk in the morning, I promise. I just wanna sleep now.”
Eddie blinked, many questions running through his head; yet he just nodded his head and agreed to sleep.
The two closed their eyes again, Eddie not bothering to hide his smile as Buck lifted his arm and made it wrap around Buck’s waist.
They held each other close, enjoying their comfortable spot and the coziness of the blanket as they both fell asleep in peaceful silence.
