#GibSunday is off to an unusual start this week with something you don't see every day: a 1972 #Gibson #ES325 #TDW, spotted at @folkwaymusic, Waterloo, Canada. These basically a budget version of the #ES335, but were odd #guitars which differed in several ways from the other Gibson #thinline semihollows: 1) they were semi-hollow but if I remember correctly, the center block does not run the full length of the body. 2) they had #minihumbuckers instead of regular #humbuckers 3) they had practical, if aesthetically questionable, plate-mounted controls. Unlike the other Gibson semihollows, you don't have to go in through the f hole to get at the electronics. 4) they only had one f hole! 5) they had an unbound neck 6) they had dot instead of block fret markers. This particular one also has those cool "Gibson"-embossed pickup covers that only happened in and around '72, that crazy "harmonica" bridge, and three or four layers of alternating light and dark body binding...the weird thing is that the outer-most binding layer is dark rather than the conventional white/crème. My cousin has one of these from (I believe) either '73 or '74 and his has a regular Tune-O-Matic (instead of the harmonica bridge) and single layer binding on the body. I have also seen red ones with single ply dark binding. Apparently there were a lot of cosmetic variations on the 325s during their short life! Oh, also, #WALLNUT! 😁 #guitar #guitarra #chitarra #guitarre #rockstarguitar #electricguitar #vintageguitars #vintagegibson #gibsonguitars #tone #guitargear #guitarsdaily #guitarporn #guitarsofinstagram #geartalk #vintagegear #gibsonsofinstagram #guitarphotography
