Minimalist Desk Setup
I’ve lived by a trusty refurb MacBook Air since last year for my design work, but as much as i love how it doesnt take up as much room as a computer, it’s a refurb from 2014 at the end of the day and it starts to choke if you even suggest the idea of using a brush in Photoshop. So i finally gave into my first PC build and ive managed to create a nice, simple space behind the sofa in our living room. Here’s my setup:
Ikea custom desk build: You can build one of these online- there’s not a ton of options but you don’t need a ton. I went for a simple black wood top with some drawers that work as half the legs. They’re really spacious drawers too which i was suprised by.
Amazon Monitor stand: I paid a bit more to have a shelf for my MacBook that slides perfectly in place. It also perfectly fits my shorter keyboard shown here
I love this keyboard for its sleek design and how it doesnt take up my whole desk, but i was surprised by how much i miss the arrow keys. Mostly for “eyeballing” stuff pixel by pixel in Illustrator/photoshop. May well give into a full size in future or get a seperate arrow/number keypad.
Design “bible” Books: Two books i use for inspiration: Pretty Much Everything - Draplin Design Co Brand by Hand - Jon Contino
Ornamental: I like to avoid unessesary “stuff” but i also like to add a bit of personality as well
I love plants, but i always end up knocking them over because im clumsy af. So my wife made me a felted one c:
My son kindly let this guy live on my desk and he suits the black sleekness. He’s there because I love Minecraft but also because i relate hard to Enderman; they’re grumpy bastards that just want to be left alone to build stuff.
