Born Again
The drone of
An airplane-
heard but not seen,
tearing its way
through the clouds
the flag of
my country
suspended on a
chill breeze
such clarity
of vision-
It is in moments
such as this that
men find religion
I have created this
winter through
which I walk.
And where is
the girl I used to
love so well?
What has
hardened my heart?
I cannot bear to
look upon her face,
which is so set
against me it
freezes my marrow-
is this the cause?
The moon rises
full and pale,
(and so distant!)
like my bride,
through a veil
of white:
I’m so cold and
I want to go home.
Still, I continue to
walk the streets
Alone
on this wild and
savagely beautiful
night
Once gone, there’s
no turning back...and if I did,
what would you do then?
Tonight I’m going
to be born again.
