The movie isn't Bad so much as cliche Hollywood drivel. It wasn't directed by Michael Bay - just produced - so the action scenes are not excessive, and it is at times quite suspenseful. The monsters are well done and the sound design is pretty good. It's mostly the lazy writing and the embrace of every shitty Hollywood trope that make it so disappointing. It's basically the white patriarch's fantasy in which he alone does all the important ManWork to support his family and save the world, while his little lady cooks and cleans and pops out babies. The woman is tortured excessively and must bear her suffering silently, while the man gets to heroically prove his love for his family. The plot has more holes than Swiss cheese. Also, it's basically Signs except with sound stuff.
