We're both pretty busy right now.
I don't mean this in a bad way, but don't get so close to me all of a sudden.
Loser in hot body core
(S2: His Point of View, Minoru Tsujimoto)
These two...
I'll admit, when it comes to Irresistible Mistakes, I had a lot of ups and downs with this title over the past several years. Some stories and characters I liked, some I didn't, and for the most part, I do think IM is a pretty interesting and sexy title if you like the story and characters.
Some of the characters already had their stories end and some are nearing its completion. So you would think that this title would eventually end, right? That's what I had initially thought until Minoru and Aki were announced.
I'll be honest, when I first saw them announced in the JP app, I wasn't all too thrilled because they came out of left field. Now, usually I don't mind when new characters are added to the title as some can shake things up. Case example, Togo. I absolutely adore that man and I never got into Oops I Said Yes until he was added. So, yes, I'm fine with new characters being added.
Minoru and Aki on the other hand... I couldn't really get hyped up for them because their addition to the title feels like Voltage is trying to extend the life of Irresistible Mistakes since it's one of their popular titles. One day Voltage announces them, puts their hands together and goes "Ta-Dah! New characters!" and it didn't really elicit any kind of reaction from me other than confusion and a bit of apathy. I'm sure many were excited about them because, let's be real here, they're hot. But it also reminds me that Voltage really put their effort into making two new characters to extend the life of a popular title instead of starting up their previously dropped titles like Tokyo Love Hustle, Rose in the Embers, and Kings of Paradise. Don't think we've forgotten, Voltage.
But I wanted to be fair to Minoru and Aki and give them a chance. I wasn't ready to dismiss them from the start because that would be unfair. Now that its been a year since they were released, what did I think of them? I actually liked them, surprisingly. I thought their stories were good, nothing to write home about, but I did have a good time with them. If I had to pick between the two of them, I definitely like Aki the most because he's usually my type in terms of looks and personality. Plus this is just me, but I see him as being neurodivergent based on his interactions even though this is just a head-canon. There are two things I didn't enjoy about their stories. First would be the MC. Her decision making is all over the place, especially in Aki's story and Minoru's season 2 story. Half the time she wasn't thinking rationally and made a decision and the other half she's suddenly going back on her decision, pulling a complete 180. Girl, get your priorities in check! The second thing would have to be that their main stories are split in two parts. This is pretty much a common thing now with newer seasons but this kind of format hurts the story because in the case with Minoru and Aki, I 100% believe their stories would be more enjoyable if it was the standard 12-13 episode instead of split in half. It ruins the flow for me personally, and it takes away from the story a bit.
That being said, since they are newer characters, there's no telling what Voltage will do with them if they aren't as popular as they hope they would be. Both of them could be like what happened with Rei and end their stories way earlier than the others. Or be put on a long hiatus like with Dr. Maki until they get a revival of some kind.
As much as I do like them, I think their addition to Irresistible Mistakes is Voltage trying to bring back players to a title that's nearing its completion. Again, not a bad thing overall, but if they don't do as well as the other characters, then there's no telling what'll happen to them in the long-run.
