Tungkol sa “FAKE” ng MINTeatro
Over the weekend I went to MINT College, Taguig to see a very special three-show only performance of FAKE by Floy Quintos under the direction of Dennis Marasigan. And let me tell you, they delivered INCREDIBLY. It was excruciatingly difficult getting there but the free entrance, free seating and brilliant performances by the cast was really worth it! Sir Dennis Marasigan had faith and gave heart to these students and I understand why, it was such a great piece and they delivered such a powerful message. The performances give justice to Floy Quintos' story which already is beautiful as it is.
Malaking congratulations sa Staff, Cast at Artistic Team ng FAKE (2019) sa ilalim ng MINTeatro! Very well done, this is the first i've ever seen this play performed on stage and it makes me so glad to have seen MINTeatro's version of it. I applaude you all! 👏👏👏
What was most powerful through out all the scenes was the conclusion of the play where William Henry Scott slowly destroys Jose Marco's fakery; (portrayed by Sebastian Katigbak and Lorenzo Jimenez) and his findings as the name Kalantiaw crumbles to pieces before us, the audience. The direction, performance and execution of the scene is so breathtaking and believable that it makes the audience forget that they're watching a play! The exchanges between the two is very engaging that you will just BELIEVE they are actually Jose Marco and William Henry Scott; while the young and innocent Miguel stands alone by himself in the corner begging Henry Scott to stop as he devours everything of Marco's work which he claims to be true, shaping the Young Miguel to what he is later as an adult. A man who does not believe in miracles, who does not have faith in what he can't see, a man who believes everything that isn't true is immediately fake.
Brilliant performance as well for Rafael Jimenez who plays Miguel in the First Act, as he portrays the distant, self-centered photo-journalist who is skeptic of the faith-healer Sister Emily portrayed by Sophia Ann Meily, who he visits in the Mountain of Revelations to see her authenticity. I cannot say I would not be as skeptical to anything as Miguel if I ever cross paths with someone like Jose Marco, worship him, and then watch him be destroyed by an otherwise great historian like Scotty.
As Filipinos, how far will it take for us to have faith in something so impossible and believe in it? Believe in it so much that it slowly becomes the truth.
Congratulations to FAKE (2019) and Sir Dennis Marasigan for directing such a powerful piece with incredible young actors! Sana magkaroon ng rerun nito as I really enjoyed it and was very much moved by it.
