“Ilya, please, I can do it myself,” Kai huffed, pushing away Julian’s hands.

“Darling, please, I will not let you go out like that,” Julian said. “Let me help.”

Kai crossed his arms over his chest, defeated. Julian’s cold fingers brushed the back of his neck, as he gathered up his hair into a hand.

“Any requests,” Julian mused, and Kai elbowed him. “Ah, ah, sorry my dear. The usual, then.”

He worked with a rhythm, humming to himself as he twisted the hair into intricate knots and styles.

“Your hair is much easier to work with than Pasha’s,” he said. “All those curls are always getting tangled, it’s an evening just to brush it all out.”

Kai laughed. “Happy to oblige.”

Finally the doctors hands fall away, and Kai turns to the mirror, raising his eyebrows at the sight of himself. His hair was piled elegantly on top of his head, with one long braid falling across his shoulder. In his high collared shirt, he almost looked like a king.

Julian caught his gaze and wrapped his arms around his waist, resting his chin on Kai’s shoulder.

“Good?” He asked. Kai nodded.

“I didn’t know you were so talented with your fingers,” he teased. Julian laughed.

“I’m a well rounded physician, my dear,” he said, and Kai shoved him playfully.

“Go brush your hair so we can leave,” he said.

Julian scoffed in mock offense. “And ruin perfection? I think not.” He threaded his arm through Kai’s and tugged him towards the door.

Kai sighed. It was going to be a long night.
