minutetech character analysis
image by xforcekillshot minute's character on lifesteal has and will always be defined by the PMC betrayal. even now that he's made up w/ clown, and is even on the same team as him (apocalypse). fundamentally, that betrayal changed, transformed him. forever. it's easy to take it at face value and say: yeah, okayy it must've hurt to have a solid close-knit trio get broken up over $500 dollars, but i said in my clownpierce analysis that it was so much more than just the money that made him betray. and i still agree with that statement the other way round for minutetech. betrayals happen on lifesteal ALL the time. it's normal. minute is not that naive; he knew ls was cutthroat like this.
an important piece of context to remember is that the PMC formed during minutetech's first season. i wrote a jumper analysis already but if you look at her s5 journey, you'll see the parallels and it'll make a little more sense what im saying in that when they first joined, they might have been wary of lifesteal and its culture, but they still believed it was possible to stick to their respective ideals of justice and loyalty AND succeed/thrive (and they wouldn't be completely wrong, but their views were a little too optimistic, lacking the nuance and knowledge they would earn through their time on ls. honestly still proud of how well they did regardless <3)
the PMC was so much more than just a team or hell, even a brotherhood, although that aspect of a friendship beyond just needing another for survival certainly added to the pain of betrayal. the thing that made the PMC special to minute in particular was that it represented his goal of establishing justice on a server like lifesteal. a dog-eat-dog server were the strongest, smartest, most cunning and usually most evil people won.
the private murder company might have been well. a private...murder...company, BUT it was clear many of the bounties they took were driven by justified revenge and evening out the playing field; the PMC was designed that way. think about it: the person who places a hit doesn't even keep the heart, they pay diamonds and get nothing in return except the sweet taste of vengeance. so, their customer base is clearly gonna be people who are sliming others out just for the fun of the game, or in more proper terms, people who have a motive, people who have a deeper reason usually aligned with justice. and THAT is what minute wanted. that's why minute went above and beyond for jumper's request, forming a lifelong alliance. unlike the other PMC members who were happy with the profits & efficiency of their team, minute seemed esp. pleased that they were able to deliver justice.
so when the PMC broke up it was so, so more than just a misunderstanding, or a betrayal. it was minute's ideal that justice could be on the winning side being shattered. i mean, as good as the other two were, minute was certainly the de-facto leader and a great organiser, so the PMC had been going in the direction of justice, even being integrated into the foundation (which he established + led btw) vs. the abyss. that's why he joined pb&j, the team that wanted to end lifesteal in peace. and i think he really thought they could win which is why his slow agonizing death at the hands of clownpierce and the others hurts that much more.
that's why he forms the empire in s6 and does do a sliightly evil thing by turning his back on the mice in the end fight while they're waiting for clown to enter. but, as battered and toughened he was by the PMC betrayal, he had conviction and never strayed from his ideals. because ultimately when it got to a point with spoke, he made the very tough decision to kill him despite making the same mistake he made with the PMC and getting attached to his fellow members
and now after reuniting with clown and forming apocalypse with sb737 + rekrap, i wonder how that'll continue...hm. regardless, you can tell that the PMC betrayal made minute rightfully, more wary. perhaps it was a necessity and an inevitability on a server like ls. still, i think for both his character and the viewers the breakup of the PMC will always be a sore scar for so many reasons </3 minute is literally on my tumblr banner but man i haven't done him enough justice yet so i hope this analysis was good :"D image by poempanic
