Summary: You start to feel something for her

You are a doctor aboard of the International Space Station
You and six other members are currently examining a few soil samples taken from Mars to see if there's evidence of extraterrestrial life but so far no luck
You float through the ship towards the dining area, suddenly you bump into someone coming from another corridor and groan as you hit your forehead against theirs
You rub your forehead to get rid of the pain and look at who you bumped into
"I'm sorry Doctor North"
"No problem and for the hundredth time just call me Miranda, no need for formalities here"
You chuckle and nod
"Sorry"
Miranda playfully shakes her head and you and her float towards the dining area

You look outside at Earth and let out a sigh
"Everything okay?"
You turn your head and see Miranda
"Yeah, just... missing home" you say
You turn your head again and keep looking outside
"I know, I miss home too from time to time"
You two don't say anything for a bit and just float in silence
"How did your family react when you told them you were going to space?" Miranda asks
You chuckle and look at her
"My dad thought I was joking but then there was the press conference where NASA announced I would join the crew and he almost fainted"
You watch as the other woman throws her head back and laughs
"And my mom offered to make sandwiches for you guys so you would like me and think I was cool for bringing you food on my first day"
Miranda can't stop laughing and you can't help but smile
"Well, are her sandwiches good?" she manages to say in between laughs
"The best, other sandwiches can't compare"
"Guess the first thing I'll do once we return to Earth is try one of her sandwiches to see if it's true then"
"I'll personally take you to her" you say
Miranda chuckles and then changes the topic

"Hello doc" you smile at Miranda "Here for my monthly check-up"
You float towards her and she starts examining you
At some point she grabs a small flashlight and floats closer to you
"Open your eyes wide please" she says
You do as told and stay still, as much as the zero gravity environment allows you, so Miranda can keep checking you
As she flashes the light in your eyes you feel her breath on your face and for some strange reason you can't explain a shiver runs down your spine
You look at her and your breath hitches at the closeness, your eyes lock with Miranda's and for a moment everything else disappears
For a moment it's just you and her
"You okay?" she asks
You blink a few times as you get pulled back to the moment at hand by her voice
"Y-yeah"

Two weeks pass
You can't stop thinking about Miranda
You find yourself always looking at her and feel your heart skip a beat whenever your hand accidentally touches her
You try to act normal around her, hoping she won't notice your growing feelings for her
Unfortunately, someone else does
"So... you have a crush on North, huh?" Rory asks
You gasp and quickly cover his mouth
"H-how do you..."
"Please, it's so obvious" he states "lately you've been looking at her like she hung the moon or something"
You feel your cheeks heat up at his words
"D-do I?"
Rory nods and you cover your face with your hands
"D-do you think she noticed?" you ask
"I don't think so, she's been putting all her focus on the Mars samples, you should be good"
You sigh and run your fingers through your hair
"I-i hope you're right"

Miranda is putting away some stuff when she feels David's eyes on her
"What?" she asks
"You know, I've noticed a certain someone looking at you a lot lately"
"Who?"
"I'll narrow it down for you. You're not my type, Rory has a girlfriend back on Earth, Sho has a wife who just gave birth to his child, Kat is straight, Hugh only sees you as a friend... that only leaves one person"
Miranda freezes on the spot at David's words
"What?"
"Come on, you didn't notice her looking at you like you're the love of her life?"
She looks at him wide eyed, like he just told her the sky is green or some other nonsense stuff
"You must be seeing things" she says
"Believe me, I'm not. She literally has a big sign above her head that says 'please notice me Miranda' in big bold letters"

After her conversation with David she starts seeing you under a new light
She finds herself paying more attention to you, smiling whenever you smile and getting close to you when the two of you are in the same area
As the days pass and the fluttering feeling in her stomach keeps growing she starts thinking that maybe, just maybe, she's starting to feel something
But first she needs to find out if what David said about you having a crush on her is true

You look outside at the stars and Earth, missing home yet again
"Mind if I join you?"
You turn your head and see Miranda floating towards you and your heart skips a beat
"N-not at all"
You two stay in silence for a bit, just looking at the stars outside
"Can I... ask you something?"
"What?" you look at her
"Do you... like someone?"
Your breath hitches and you feel your cheeks heating up
"W-why do you want to know?"
"Just curious..."
You look at her, thinking about Rory telling you that she hasn't noticed you looking at her differently and start wondering if maybe he told her about your growing feelings for her
"D-did Rory tell you something?"
"What are you talking about?" Miranda looks at you confused
"A-about him telling you that I have a crush on you"
You quickly cover your mouth as you realize what you just said and suddenly find the floor very interesting
"I-i have to go"
Before you can float away Miranda grabs your wrist and pulls you towards her
"Please look at me"
You look at her and your breath hitches at the closeness, she cups your cheek
"Can I..."
You nod, hoping this isn't a dream
"Words darling"
"Y-yes" you say in a shaky voice
You both lean in and soon her lips are on yours, when you pull away from the kiss she rubs your cheek with her thumb
"When we will return to Earth in a couple of months will you go on a date with me?" Miranda asks and your heart skips a beat
"I-i would love to"
