Dedicated to a Streamer I watch, Home_Wrecker. He dislikes the Mirror Shield, so I made a fun depiction of this concept~

MIRROR SHIELD PROJECT (2016)

El proyecto se inició para y en el campamento de Oceti Sakowin cerca de Standing Rock, Dakota del Norte por la artista Cannupa Hanska Luger. Tras publicar un video tutorial en las redes sociales invitando a la gente a crear escudos de espejo, personas de todo el país se unieron a la causa enviando estos escudos a los protestantes de la tribu sioux de Standing Rock, para detener la construcción de u oleoducto que iba a cruzar tierras ancestrales.

La fuerza del espejo es su capacidad de reflejar la imagen que tiene delante; mostrandoles a los “antagonistas” de la historia que ellos son los culpables de la destrucción de aquel paraje natural.

Este hecho se ha convertido uno de los más eficaces, populares y duraderos de toda la historia del activismo indio. La oposición al proyecto Dakota Access ha propiciado un resurgir de la lucha de los sioux, que ha logró unir desde ecologistas y políticos a veteranos de guerra y estrellas de Hollywood.

I know I already posted the mirror shield a while ago, but I never posted the WIP pics! So I started out with some XPS foam cut roughly to shape, and then started carving away at it with a knife to remove the most material, and then using a rasp to chunk off the rest and get a nice even curve. The client wanted the prop to be bigger so this process was done twice. Then I covered it in plaster and a good couple layers of filler primer that I wet sanded only up to 600 grit. After that just plenty of layers of believe it or not, just normal silver spray paint. I don’t have a working airbrush to use Alclads aircraft chrome paints or else I’d have used those. The wooden borders were done by slicing long wood planks to angles (that I guess I forgot to take photos of) which were also sanded and filled until I got a smooth even surface. Which was then painted with high gloss cherry red paint. The raised details are craft foam plastidipped and spray painted.
