Art, technology and botany have come together to form a trifecta calledEphemerā’. Created by a Viennese deign company mischer’traxler, the exhibit is a series of kinetic furniture pieces commissioned by champagne maker Perrier-Jouët, with the purpose of initiating and stimulating curiosity whilst exploring the relationship between humans and nature. Using a series of ultrasonic sensors placed around the edge of the table, the piece senses when people are close (through sound and proximity). When people get near to the exhibit the plants retract into the table, shying away from human interaction. Although this is a project that is more artistic than functional, the message surrounding humans and their effect on nature is a powerful one.
