Birthday Bash pt 1: The Lake
It was Ezra’s birthday and he couldn’t have felt less happy. Today also marked the anniversary of triggering his curse.
He had been 15. Stupidly, he had been practicing driving with a friend. It was just in the high school parking lot, but he veered too quickly around a corner and slammed into another vehicle. He was the only survivor, and guilt had consumed. His father, being a werewolf himself, sent Ezra to Lyons University.
JC had tried to follow him, but was unable to join the school. That is, until a Vampire accidentally snapped his neck. He revived himself in a flurry of ash and smoke, proving he did deserve to be there. The two have been inseparable since.
Ezra sighed softly and rubbed at his temples. Magical History was his least favorite class and the one he skipped out on the most. He leaned his head back and let out a soft groan.
“Mr. Diaz,” the teacher hummed, staring the boy down, “Is there a problem?”
“No, sir.” Ezra frowned, meaning it this time. There was a problem, but not with the class, “I’m sorry, sir. It’s not... a good day today.”
The teacher nodded his head in understanding. “I’m almost done, okay?”
Ezra nodded and tried his best to focus. As soon as the bell rang, he rushed out and ignored all the sounds of the pissed off students who just so happened to bump shoulders with him.
He rushed outside and into the woods on campus. He found the little treehouse he and JC had made a little over a year ago and hid out in it. He couldn’t stop the thoughts pounding in his head or the racing of his heart.
He screamed, loudly. He gripped his hair in both fists and pulled. He couldn’t catch his breath. Why couldn’t he catch his breath?
“Ezra?” Jaren hummed as he climbed the later. He frowned at the look on his fellow pack mate’s face. “Come on. I have an idea of something that can help.”
Ezra followed him, looking for any relief to the feelings suffocating him. He stumbled a few times, following the other wolf to.. what was this? A lake?
“I’m a dog, not a mermaid.” Ezra grunted.
“It’s spelled. Jump in. Clothes off though.” Jaren commented.
Ezra eyed him. “Dude that’s gay.”
“Oh for fuck...” Jaren prinched the bridge of his nose and sighed deeply. “Just fucking do it.”
Ezra sighed, shrugged, and pulled off his shirt. He kicked his pants off but kept his boxers in. He took a glance at the pool before sucking in a breath and jumping in.
He found that the water was a perfect temperature, not too hot and not too cold. He also found that he could breathe, but that wasn’t the kicker. He was in wolf form.
He surfaced, his head popping out in all its human glory. “Uh.. Jaren? What the fuck?”
“It allows wolves to turn when it’s not a full moon, and painlessly. To relieve aggression.” The brunette shrugged. He sat by the edge, one leg crossed ynder the other, his hand resting on his knee.
“Thanks.. For showing me.” Ezra sighed as he sunk back down. The lake seemed endless, too deep and too long. There were tunnels and tons of space to swim and play. Ezra felt free for the first time in a while. He almost forgot what made him so fucked uo in the first place.
