Italy. Mishka couldn’t believe that she was actually in Italy. She had been positive that she was bound to be stuck in Aina forever, so when Dev had told her that they were going to Italy, Mishka had been stunned speechless. The brunette was sure that this had a lot to do with Amirah. Since the King of Italy had to return to his home country and he intend to take her younger sister with him. What she couldn’t imagine was that the other male would be lenient enough to allow her to come along. It also boggled her mind that King Dev would permit this trip. Of course, he would come along, but the fact that he’d agreed to not separate her from her younger sister did soften her towards him at least. She didn’t see a need to run anymore because no matter where she went, he would find her anyway, so why waste her time? He’d been true to his words and after two weeks of her attempt to run away, she was reunited with Amirah; thankfully. The sisters took every opportunity to spend time together and were even given the chance to explore the castle grounds here together. Today, they were given the tour of vineyard and yet, somewhere along the way, she got separated from Amirah and was left alone with King Dev. “Where did they go?” She questioned, looking around her surroundings.

Last night was an eye opening event for Mishka. She’d come to realize that Dev felt more than just lust for her. He loved her. Yes, he might not have said it outright, but everything else that escaped his lips had been proof enough for her. He wanted her not just in this life, but also all of his other lifetimes. If that wasn’t love, she didn’t know what that would mean. Still, despite feeling secure and knowing that she couldn’t walk away from him, she felt off today. Mishka could still feel his touch on her, the way he’d taken her and loved her, it all felt seared in every pore of her body. She wanted to go to him again, needed a repeat experience of last night, but she knew she shouldn’t. There was still so much she needed to know before she could be sure that he was hers for good. So, today, she’d been cordial with her soulmate when she’d encountered him at lunch and then again at dinner at the dining hall. While she’d been ignoring him in the past, this time, she spoke to him normally. The only thing she hadn’t done was give him the chance to be alone with her again. She was afraid of herself, afraid that she would jump on him like she did the previous night, so she’d made sure that they were never alone. Mishka could feel his gaze on her the whole time they were in the same room however. He wasn’t even being subtle and each time their eyes met, she felt goose bumps rising on her skin. After dinner, she headed back to her chambers, but instead of using the halls, she used the back way which cut through the garden outside her living quarters. She was sure he wouldn’t follow her, however, she’d guessed wrong. Before she could step into her room, he’d grabbed her and pushed her against the wall; his hard body deliciously pressed against her softer one. “Dev…” She said, her voice dropping an octave as her heart pounded inside her chest.

It had been three weeks since Mishka last spoke to Dev. Since that time, she’d avoided him and focused on the preparation of her wedding to Stephen. Her old friend had been hesitant about going through with their marriage. He’d told her that he would be her ally even if she chose not to take the plunge and she didn’t have to go through with it. But Mishka was too stubborn to listen to her friend’s advice. She was hurt by Dev and a part of her was only doing this to get back at him. He’d promised that he would never let her go, and yet, as soon as the going got tough, he decided that it was easier to bail. If he thought that he was doing the right thing, he was wrong. Now, not only did her heart ache, but every inch of her did so too. She hated him, hated that he was forcing her to live this half an existence without him. Most of all, she hated herself for still loving him despite knowing that he didn’t deserve her at all. So, she made herself do this; marry Stephen.
Today was the big day. They were holding a western ceremony. Everyone that resided within Aina along with the other royals that were still living in their home countries had been invited. There must’ve been about a thousand people in the grand hall alone. She should have been excited about today and yet, all she felt was emptiness. Finally, the time came for her to head to the alter. She would be given away by Aditya—the man she’d grown up around and someone she trusted implicitly. Perhaps she stood up a little too soon or maybe it was due to all of the stress she’d endured. Whatever the reason, she felt lightheaded and had to cling to Aditya just so she could find her balance. The man wanted to know if she was sure she was fine, she told him that she was, but midway through, everything went black.
When she came to, she was on her bed with Stephen by her side. He told her then that he couldn’t marry her. He cared about her too much to go through with it. Mishka cried then and told him how sorry she was, to which he held her while telling her that everything would be alright. It was then that she realized how truly selfless her friend was. Stephen stayed by her side for the next few hours before she was swept back into slumber. The next time she opened her eyes, the first person she saw was Dev. He was sitting by her bedside just looking at her. Her hurt and anger returned, and when she realized that he was holding her hand, she snatched them away before coldly saying, “Get out.”

Mishka knew the possibility that the secret of Dev’s affiliation to the Mists would come out someday, but she hadn’t thought that it would happen so soon. The moment her advisors informed them that they were housing a Mist sympathizer, she already knew that they were talking about Dev. They advised her to kick him out, however, she told them that it was only fair for them to give Dev a chance to defend himself of such an accusation. After all, he was the crown prince of India and it wasn’t in their best interest to sever ties with the future ruler of such a big country. For all the magic that Aina Faridabad held, they were a small nation in comparison to India whose population went beyond that of Aina’s and if they were go to war with India, the likelihood of her countrymen being wiped out was a lot higher. That excuse seemed to give her advisors room for contemplation; it also afforded her time to speak to her soulmate and think of their next course of action. As soon as her meeting was over, she headed back to her office hoping to summon her fiancé there, but much to her relief, he was already waiting. Once the door to her study was closed, she went to him, wrapping her arms around his shoulders and hugging him close. “The news is out. Are you okay, my love?” She asked, worried that something like this might mess with his mind. It surely would have done that to her. She couldn’t imagine being in his shoes and actually actively trying to be a better person after making a huge mistake, but now he was forced to face the consequences of his actions. It would be hard for anyone to bear.

As the weeks wore on, Mishka could feel herself growing weaker and weaker. The priests were trying their best to find a cure for this ailment, unfortunately the only relief she would get was by sharing the same space as Dev. She hated him still, or at least what he’d made her do—alienate herself from him and having to endure the pain she did—but at least whenever she was around him, her body didn’t ache as it normally would. Pushing all of that aside, tonight was an important night. She was to announce Amirah’s engagement to Prince Aidan. The two had been friends for a long time now, so it made sense that they should marry. Prince Aidan’s family approved of the match, and Mishka couldn’t agree more. Hence, she’d thrown a ball tonight. Everything was going perfectly, in about an hour, she would be making the announcement, but as she gazed around the ballroom, she caught sight of Dev and Princess Ayesha getting a little too chummy. Something akin to jealousy settled in the pit of her stomach, but knowing that she shouldn’t have any sort of feelings for her soulmate, she ignored it, until she couldn’t anymore when it became apparent that Ayesha was flirting with Dev. It was then that she approached the two and she greeted Princess Ayesha, making sure to ignore the Indian Prince. “Princess Ayesha, look how lovely you’ve grown up to be. I love the dress.”
The younger Princess looked startled to see her, but she curtsied nonetheless and addressed her, “We all grow up, your highness, and thank you, you look lovely too.”
“Some of us do. Some apparently don’t…” Mishka’s words were clearly a jibe at her soulmate.
A little over a week has passed since the night Mishka gave herself to Dev and things between her and her soulmate had never been better. He was insatiable and she in return could only encourage his hunger. She knew that she still had to talk to Stephen, but in her defense, the Canadian Prince had to take a last minute trip back to his home country which left her unable to break the news. It wasn’t like she could tell him over the phone. In the time that he’d been gone, she’d spend every night with Dev which left her exhausted. Tonight, she was hell-bent on sleeping alone, but before she made her way back to her castle after dinner, she decided to make a pit stop at the library to get a book. Mishka shouldn’t bump into Dev there since he was still in the dining area engaged in a deep conversation when she snuck out. It should give her at least a twenty minutes start and if she could make it back to her quarters without being seen, she should be home free. That had been her plan, until she got to the library and who should she see but Dev sitting on one of the lounge chairs looking relaxed and smug. “How did you get here so fast?” She asked, feeling half annoyed and yet also impressed at how observant he was when it came to her. “Weren’t you talking to the Prince of England?” She continued, moving towards one of the stacks, careful to not get too close to him. If he got ahold of her it would be another sleepless night and as much as she wanted him, she needed sleep.

Nights where Mishka didn’t have any obligations were rare. She normally had to attend dinner with the royals residing within Aina Mahal or whatever party one of them chose to throw. Tonight, however, she was able to have dinner at her quarters. She could’ve done that with Dev and ended up having sex again, but she decided that since the moon was full, she would rather lay a blanket out in her private garden and enjoy a picnic with her soulmate. Lately, he’d agreed to everything she suggested and tonight was no different. It was nice that they were spending time together outside the bedroom. While she would never say that she didn’t like being taken by him, it was his companionship that she craved more of and since he hadn’t said no to her yet, she figured that she might as well milk whatever opportunity to get him out of the bedroom before he got greedy with her again and lock her away in order to fuck her silly. “You know, when I was a little girl, I had a garden just like this one in my wing and at night when the moon is full like this, I’d play hide and seek with some of the children of the palace staff that I would befriend. It was fun.” She said to him as they sat on the blanket, her gaze on the sky as she recollected those fond memories.
