Admittedly, Robert was having a pretty shitty day.
He’d been awoken by the sound of his alarm piercing through the stillness of the house at the arse-crack dawn.
If he could’ve had it his own way, he’d of cocooned himself back around Aaron. Finding warmth and comfort in the crook of his neck, kissing gently at Aaron’s weak spot, in the hope he could convince him for a quickie before work.
But time doesn’t stop for the likes of Robert Sugden. Not even on the most romantic day of the year - Valentines Day.
He’d left Aaron with a kiss to the forehead and the promise of wining and dining him tonight.

Pushing the doors to his home, Robert was a little more than surprised to see the hall lights dimmed and a strong sense of burning candles filling the air.
“Aaron?” Robert echoed through the room.
“Oh shit - ow - fuck you’re not supposed to be home yet.” Aaron said frustrated, boiling hot pasta sauce spilling over his hand.
“Sorry,” Robert said, ensuring to sound genuinely apologetic. For what he wasn’t sure though. “What’s all this?” He questions.
“Well, it was supposed to be a surprise!” Aaron says exasperatedly.
“I thought we said no fuss this year remember?”
“Yeah well - it’s the least I can do,” he hesitates “after everything you did for me last year. When we weren’t even - you know”
“Hey,” Robert says softly “I’m here now. And this, this is perfect”
“Yeah?”
“Yes. Everything about you is perfect” Robert says, crowding himself in Aaron’s space. He lifts his chin with capable fingers, searches Aaron’s eyes for disbelief, and when he doesn’t find any he kisses him hard. Pouring all his love and appreciation into that one kiss.
He leaves Aaron breathless with a promise of later.

After they’ve eaten, what Robert must admit, was a delicious meal, Aaron sneaks off upstairs. Robert would follow him, corner him in the bedroom and have his way with him, but he’s under strict instructions to stay exactly where he is.
Aaron returns a few minutes later with a large, rectangular object in tow. It’s wrapped in blue and silver paper, a bow stuck haphazardly in the middle. Robert knows Aarons wrapped it himself because it looks atrocious.
But Roberts in awe isn’t he? Because it shows love and commitment.
And Aaron, well he looks more than pleased with himself.
“Please don’t tell me that’s for me.” Robert says, feeling the guilt seep in already.
“Well it’s not for me is it?” Aaron replies, voice laced with sarcasm. There’s no room for and hostility behind his words when his smile is lighting up the dim room.
“Aaron we said no presents! I thought we agreed we were saving the money for the surrogacy fund?”
“We did.” Aaron says, and to reassure Robert he adds, “And don’t worry - I didn’t expect you to get me anything. I just saw this online and I couldn’t resist”
He places the gift in front of Robert. And Robert, well he just stares at it like the idiot he is, unsure of to do.
“This is usually the part when you open it, ya idiot.” And he’s doing that nervous thing he does; twiddling his ring around his finger as if to ground himself. Lip buried deep into his bottom lip.
And before Robert’s even got half of the wrapping off, Aarons explaining himself, as he couldn’t contain the excitement bubbling inside of him any longer.
“It’s a picture of the night sky, of all the stars and constellations - and whatever - from above here on our wedding night - the second - second one - and there’s a little message on there too - I thought maybe we could put it up down here? Or not, I mean it’s up to you.” He tumbles about nervously, like a kid on Christmas morning.
And Robert’s cheeks feel wet, don’t they? Because his husband is has done this really special, thoughtful thing for him. Because his husband wants his permanent reminder of their wedding day on display in their house. Because his husband loves him so much.
And God does Robert love Aaron.
“I love it. I love you” He says wipping at his face.
Words fail him. It’s all he can do to lean up and kiss his husband senseless.
Tomorrow he’s going to put the map up, pride of place, and he’s going to invite everyone around to see it. But right now, he’s going to show his husband exactly how much he loves him.

8. Favourite affair era scene? I answered this here!
18. Favourite break-up?The one on Christmas 2017. Only a couple so in love would have one half (Aaron) break up with the other (Robert) a few seconds after he’d broken up with him. (i.e.: Told him that Alex would be a better option for him, which only made Aaron more enraged because How could Robert be saying this??? Has he met Alex??? Does he realise that he’s not Robert???)

38. A moment that made you laugh?You know that moment where Robert said, “Graham”? I still think about it and chuckle to myself.
48. Tell us about how you found and fell in love with Robron?Well, my mother watched the show and then at some point in 2014, shortly before Robert came back, I kind wound up watching with her. As for the falling in love, I don’t know when it happened exactly. I just know I really enjoyed their scenes together, and then the lay-by kiss happened and it was just insane and amazing and I guess that it just happened.
I think about this all the time because it’s so weird and wild that I even ended up here in this fandom. It used to be this dumb soap couple I followed by myself for years (like seriously, I live texted a friend my reactions to SSW 2016, and that saint humoured the whole thing -- including my explanations about the history of everything), and then sometime in 2017, I looked them up on Tumblr and found this pre-existing community and fandom??? (Other fandom experiences I missed out on because I never went looking: Stargate: Atlantis, Sherlock, and to some extent, Doctor Who and Legend of Korra, in that I never really posted or discussed it beyond a few friends of mine who also loved and watched it. I’d reblog a few gifsets on my old Tumblr account, but that was it.)
I dunno. It just makes me so grateful and happy for online communities and spaces like this, where we get to connect with other fans and discuss our shared love for something like this. People are always shocked that Emmerdale has a Tumblr fandom, and I get it. You don’t expect it for this specific show. But isn’t it kind of magical that people who love a soap have found each other like this? Being a devoted fan is such a wonderful and intense experience and to have other people who get it, and understand the sheer love these two idiots inspire in me at any given moment is a gift.

Vic stares at the calendar inhorror.
Ohfuck.
Without meaning to, she's arrangedtwo dates for the same evening.
Well. Vic’s nothing if not resourceful.A plan already springs to mind, and she half smiles to herself. Maybe theevening isn’t ruined after all.

She’s waiting anxiously in the pubwhen he arrives. She’s not seen him in years, although they’ve kept in touch.Part of her wishes he’d just settle down already—he’s getting on a bit, even ifhe doesn’t like it when she says so.
“Vic,” he says, all warm eyes and stronghugs, “It’s so good to see you again.”
“Even if it means being back inthis place?”
Her smile is wry and his turnsrueful.
“Yeah, even then…”
She orders him a pint to go withher white wine, and he’s just settling himself into a story at the bar when herother date for the evening arrives.
“So anyway, I got up to leave andthen he said—”
“Oh sorry,” Aaron says, face pureconfusion as he touches Vic’s shoulder lightly to get her attention, “I thoughtwe were meant to be meetin’ tonight… Haven’t got the date wrong have I?”
“No, no,” Vic says and tries tohide her sly smile. Robert always knows when she’s up to something, and shedoesn’t want him to suspect. “You’re right, we were meant to be meetingtonight, but I forgot my brother Robert was due to meet me after a work trip today.”
Both men look bewildered, and she remembersthat, oh yeah, they’re both reallyhard work when they want to be.
“Robert, this is Aaron,” shestarts, resisting the urge to roll her eyes, “Chas’ son. Aaron, this is mybrother Robert.”
Robert hesitates for a secondbefore sticking his hand out for Aaron to shake. Aaron eyes him cautiously but returnsit, his manner-less years long behind him. Vic thinks he might be onto her; he’sgiving her a look that she thinks means he’s not liking the devious glint inher eye, but he opts to ignore it for now. Hecan be tactful, Vic thinks, on theodd occasion.
She orders him a pint and the boysexchange pleasantries. All I suppose I vaguelyremember you and what are you up tonow then? She leaves them to it, best to let them bond on her own.
They find a table now that they’rea party of three, and they’ve just settled when Robert says:
“So, you wanted me to meet yourboyfriend, is that what this is about?”
Aaron nearly chokes on the sip ofpint he’s just swallowed, and Vic giggles to herself as Aaron shoots her aglare, his face blossoming into a violent shade of red.
“Definitely not,” Vic supplies for Aaron. “We were actually meetingto have a crisis talk about Adam, his best mate.”
“So, is he your boyfriend then?” Robert asks, confused as ever.
“No,” Vic intones like he’s an idiot. She supposes he is, sometimes.“Well. Not yet. That’s what the talk was about.”
Just at that moment, Adam entersthe pub, eyes scanning the room. They light up when he notices Aaron and Vic,and she hurriedly exits the booth to greet him, both of them flirting shamelessat the bar as he orders himself a pint.
“So, you’re not Vic’s boyfriend?”Robert clarifies, just to fill the silence.
“No,” Aaron shakes his head andlaughs. “I was once, a long time ago, but then I realised something.”
“What’s that?”
“I’m gay.”
Robert doesn’t react, only gives ahalf smile and sips his pint.
Aaron feels grateful for it, skingoing hot and prickly at the thought of being rejected in that way by Robert.He’s not sure if Vic meant to set them up—he’s not even sure that Robert is gay—but the mischievous look in her eyeand the way he can tell she’s purposefully stalling Adam at the bar gives himhope.
Robert is gorgeous after all.
“You alright with that?” Aaron asksanyway, just to be sure. Robert looks appalled at the question.
“Of course,” Robert smiles. Then, a few seconds later: “Wouldn’treally have a leg to stand on if I wasn’t.”
“And why’s that?”
“I’m bi.”
Aaron mulls this over in his mind.He’s never met anyone who’s bi before, doesn’t really know a lot about being bisexual. He’sgot some questions, but anyone who potentially understands the struggle thatAaron went through coming out, well he’s got respect for whatever they labelthemselves as, and he says as much.
“Thanks,” Robert replies, exudingcharm and Aaron’s almost sweating with how hot under the collar Robert ismaking him. He’s got a white shirt on, top few buttons undone under a maroonsuit. Aaron’s never really gone in for the whole, posh-businessman-look, butwell. When Robert looks that good, how can he not?
“So…” Aaron says, giving Robert apointed look and draining the last of his pint. Robert’s already finished his.
Under Robert’s watchful gaze Aaronfeels bold. The intensity of their eye contact is only magnified when Robertplaces a tentative hand on Aaron’s that’s resting on the table. Aaron feels heat coilinglow in his belly and he’s already gone for this man, he knows it.
“You want to get out of here?” Robertmurmurs. “I’m sure Vic won’t mind if you come back to hers, I’m meant to bestaying there.”
“S’pose that would be alright.” Aarontries for casual, but his soft smile gives him away.
“C’mon then.”
Aaron takes his hand, and he doesn’tlook back.
