Why would Nick Fury and S.H.I.E.L.D. possibly be interested in someone wanting to steal a famous painting or two? Well, whatever the reason, here they are - Strike Team Delta, re-enacting some old Cary Grant movie. Or was that Thomas Crown? One had jewel thieves in it and the other art ones - Clint can’t for the life of him remember which is which. But they both come with beautiful women, so there’s that.

Written for the be_compromised 2017 Secret Santa exchange, for Crystal_Litanie, based on the following prompt: Mission in Central Europe. Throw in some architecture, art and politics and I’ll be as happy as it gets. She also expressed a desire for “mission fic, banter and early S.H.I.E.L.D. days”. Bonus (for me): Her request fitted perfectly with one the great fanfic-bait lines in The Winter Soldier: For 70 years, HYDRA has been secretly feeding crises, reaping war. And when history did not cooperate, history was changed. So, perfect prompt was perfect!

Clintasha Advent Day 19:  Missions

So, again I don’t have a lot of time to come up with something new.  But mission!fic is kind of what I do, because it is SO much fun.  So here have a bunch of them, in no particular order, sorted by category for convenience:

Dramatic stuff: 

In the Service.  This one has four chapters, the first (New York I) is a Clint solo; the second (Tbilisi) the mission where he brings in Natasha; and the third (Abidjan) is a joint one, which incorporates the little video clip you see on the screen in “Avengers”.

Highway of Diamonds  Pre-Avengers.  Darkest thing I ever wrote. Heed the warnings...!  Some Strike Team Delta H/C at the end.

Adventury stuff:

Second Mouse  James Bond 007 Crossover, with (spoiler alert, but it takes only 15 seconds to figure it out, so eh) Natasha in her pre-SHIELD glory.  (There are two sequels, too...)

Red Wedding Pre-SHIELD, in which Clint and Natasha meet as “fellow professionals” with similar objectives.

Fun stuff:

Some Assembly Required  Natasha drags Clint to IKEA on a mission (ahem) to furnish her new apartment.

Clintasha Advent:  Missions!

Oh, boy.  Do I have missions for you!  Mission!fic happens to be my kryptonite, both as a reader and a writer.

Here are three I’m particularly fond of:

Red Wedding (before Natasha joins SHIELD)

In the Service (Chapter 1 is Clint missioning solo; Chapter 2, his mission is Natasha; Chapter 3, they’re in a mission together; Chapter 4 is not really a mission)

Alexander Lightwood has a jealousy streak a mile wide. He just doesn’t show it often. Most of the time, he tampers it down with brooding looking and staring into the far horizon.

He never really thought about it. He never really cared because the last time he thought himself in-love was with childhood friend, adoptive brother, and parabatai. Needless to say, he couldn’t make it obvious.

Now, on the other hand, after moving on from Jace and starting a relationship with Magnus, it was a completely different story.

First and foremost, Magnus didn’t fit in any of the descriptions stated above. Second, Magnus was Downworlder and not Shadowhunter. Third, Magnus was bi.

Alec didn’t really care for the second one as much. He loved his flamboyant, glittery, fashion-savvy warlock more than he ever imagine he could love someone.

Hence, the problem they’re currently facing—Magnus’ volunteering to help in a Nephilim investigation again. It was code for ‘I am bored and I want to spend time with my Alexander’.

Neither Isabelle nor Jace seemed to mind, but Alec did, especially when it involved flirting.

Flirting usually fell on Jace or Isabelle’s shoulders. They were good at it, great at it even after so many years of perfecting flirtation as an art form.

Apparently, Magnus had perfected it as well with his centuries of flirting experience. The thought made Alec’s blood boil.

A morning suit really isn't Clint Barton's style, but at least he's not the only one crashing the wedding.

And now for something truly tropey and old-fashioned... An unedited version of this was written for the @be-compromised Valentine’s Day promptathon, to a prompt from kiss_me_cassie, “Mission: Wedding”. I like the idea that Clint and Natasha had met at some point before he made that “different call,” so I happily grabbed the opportunity to write that. Thanks, Cass!

The timeline is about 5 years after Clint joined S.H.I.E.L.D. (which based on the badge we saw on the Avengers DVD was 1999) – so, around 2004-5, when Tony Stark was still merrily selling weapons around the planet, and just after the Sokovian civil war.

As a devoted Clint-Natasha shipper I see this story as AoU non-compliant, but if you’d rather it was, you can probably make it so if you squint. A mild warning for domestic violence (movie-level, nothing graphic).
