Do I defend the judo flip scene? No. But can I acknowledge the fact that it was written in a romantic context and Annabeth isn’t abusive? Yes.
The judo flip scene DID really tick me off. Percy grew up in an abusive home where people who were supposed to care for him hurt him and it wasn’t cool for Annabeth to do the same thing, even if it was just once. Percy could’ve been seriously hurt (let’s not forget how strong Annabeth is) and it wasn’t okay whatsoever, and could also cause trust issues and maybe even cause Percy to genuinely fear Annabeth. I do think it was very out of character for Annabeth as well, considering they needed to make a good impression on the Roman’s and I feel like Annabeth is smart enough to know that. It was a weird thing to add and I genuinely don’t understand why Rick felt the need to write it in.
But Annabeth is still human. She has flaws, she makes mistakes, and that’s okay. The fandom holds her (and lots of other female characters) to such high standards which is fucking dumb. Everyone is allowed to make mistakes and be a pathetic wet cat sometimes. It was an impulsive and objectively stupid thing to do, but damn guys lay off her case. Annabeth isn’t abusive, she isn’t a bad girlfriend, that was one goddamn thing. Literally. Yeah it was a big thing but she still loves Percy sososo much and just made a mistake. Please guys she was under a lot of stress and probably irrationality angry and just. FUCKING LAY OFF MY GIRL DAMN. There were very clearly romantic undertones. It was weird as fuck but it was still romantic. She’s not an abusive girlfriend. Chill out.
Yes, the judo flip was bad and Annabeth is at fault, but that doesn’t make her a horrible person. She made a mistake.
I'm really curious- why are some of the characters in that new drawing of all the strawhats sleeping flipped horizontally? Zoro's scar and earrings are wrong and so is nami's tattoo. Sanji's hair is correct tho lol
wow i just got flashbacks from my marvel era lol
like ive said before, i mix up my right and left + flip the canvas pretty frequently to check proportions/composition/line more easily so mix up happens :)
Yesterday I tried to give my handsome koi betta (Ghostface Killa) a girlfriend... but it turns out he is just a misogynist and does not appreciate company in his territory :/ I had her in the bag floating in the tank with the lights off for 30 mins to acclimate to temp etc. then released her.
I removed her from the tank within ~10-15 mins and took her back to the shop. She was probably in my house for an hour tops.
Despite him building bubble nests on his lonesome, he did nothing but aggro her, chasing her to each corner of the tank, seemingly attacking her even when she went up for air, and essentially being a dick. I knew he was gonna be a bit of a bastard but I somehow didn't think he would be that bad. I was wrong.
It sucks to eat humble pie, but I would prefer that this female betta didn't get injured because of my ignorance (or naïveté).
I have kept only male bettas over the years and I thought it might be a nice new avenue to open up, with his behaviour showing signs of paternal instinct. I just thought since he had been making nests that he was ready, but clearly fantasy is preferable to reality! I didn't want to see that new fish get brutalised so I just netted her and went straight back to the shop. In the pics I had turned the lights on to see where she was being chased before catching her.
... after thinking about it, maybe it could be that the fish I brought home was a particularly drab, immature male, as the shop weren't 100% sure.
Either way, they said it was fine to return them for the welfare of the animal.
It sucks to know things don't always go to plan, but that's why responsible establishments will accept returns and support the hobbyists.
“…I don’t always know what I’m doing. I try something. If it doesn’t work, I try something else. None of us are perfect, are we? But we have to keep trying to be our best selves. You are on your way to the top. You’ll make some missteps, but that’s normal. Mostly; you’re going to do things you didn’t even know you were capable of.”
