About this blog...
I'm MisterKillam, and I've been a console pleb for years. Recently, I made a decision to build a PC instead of buying a PS4, a choice many friends deemed a wise one. Some (Mainly my buddy JoeTank over on YouTube) even donated some of their old parts when they found out that MisterKillam was finally getting a PC. I'll talk about the probably endless cycle of building and upgrading my PC here as well as Skyrim-related things. I love Skyrim. I've always been a fantasy roleplayer, I've been playing D&D since I was in middle school and it's stuck with me ever since. Whether electronic or pen and paper, my interests always come back to roleplaying games. Morrowind was my introduction to the Elder Scrolls series. While it was good, it was Skyrim that perfectly captured the action and adventure of a low-ish fantasy RPG. My goal with modding Skyrim is, in a word, realism. I've played it since release on my 360 and while it's great fun, the realism and immersion needed some attention. I want to get as close as possible to living the life of a professional adventurer without actually going outside with a bow and shooting things (that's for my other blog, @redneckbackpacker). Frostfall, Realistic Needs & Diseases, Hunterborn, and other realism mods are at the top of my list. I'm going to be keeping an in-character journal written from the perspective of Torgeir Mountain-Hearth, a Nord from Bruma in way over his head. The idea (besides a fun exercise in storytelling) is to give anyone who reads it an insight into the daily life of someone who does fantasy-style adventuring for a living. A window into how my players' PC's live (player character, not computer) for a DM's reference. The rules are as follows: - No fast traveling. Torgeir will walk, ride, or take a carriage wherever he goes, but he won't simply poof about the province like a madman with a pocket full of portkeys. I might consider adding the Skyrim Wayshrines mod. Maybe. - Torgeir must write in his journal at least before he goes to sleep. His thoughts at the end of the day make up the purpose of this blog. Sometimes an adventurer's days stretch across many sunrises, so there might occasionally be 48 hours of adventuring for an exhausted Torgeir to record. Which brings me into the next rule... - Torgeir must act and accept quests and such like a real person. If the quest demands urgency (dragons attacking Whiterun, for instance), he won't just ignore it to go gather herbs. He'll go kill a dragon! Side stuff can wait. It's pretty reasonable to assume that he won't be side-questing until after the initial clearing of Sky Haven Temple, when Esbern needs to take some time to research Alduin's wall. - Mods must be lore-friendly and realistic. No bikini mail, or replacing the dragons with Thomas the Tank Engine. Weapons and armor added will look more at home in the Danelaw than Azeroth. I'm not going to add any player homes that aren't already in the city enhancement mods, either, mostly because I don't like to bother with homes much anyway. If I do add followers, they are subject to the same criteria. I do intend to add Falskaar and possibly other new lands mods, so Torgeir's story need not be limited to Skyrim. Just, no Dwemer sentry turrets or followers with skimpy outfits. I'll keep a list of mods that I use and document the growth of my load order, as well as note any compatibility issues in case you guys like how my Skyrim build looks. It may be a bit before the mods are set up to where I can truly give you Torgeir's story, so until then it'll be mostly fantasy art reblogs, PC build updates, and me gushing about tabletop roleplaying and such. Anything that's not in character will be tagged #MisterKillam, and anything in character will be tagged #Torgeir, for ease of reference. If you made it to the end, you win a prize! For your patience, I reward you with a sense of smug satisfaction. Not everyone reads the whole thing, you know.
