mistermetropolis answered your question “Theory: Saga is Lady Alvane, and also Kian's mother”
Yep pretty much had this exact theory since Book One came out
I thought that she could be Lady Alvane, if she’s really April reborn, since back then too, but I also wasn’t sure if she was her reborn, or just April as a baby then. And then she turned out to clearly not be April as a kid, and I completely missed when she was more or less cofirmed by Abnaxus to be Lady Alvane. But I never thought about Saga being Kian’s mother until now.
pls link to gth incest details for those of us who want to know and then want to believe??
first: Her Interactive’s official response to fan questions
here’s the most relevant bit:
What was the significance of Clara’s father?
... GTH is a game that sometimes answers questions with hints instead of answers, like I’m doing now. I wanted our players to share Clara’s frustration about her father. Why wouldn’t Clara’s mother tell her? Was she selfish or controlling? Was she protecting her daughter from something – or did she simply not care enough about Clara’s feelings?
In many ways GTH is a very dark story – but we are a company that designs for ages 10 and up. Our goal in this particular game was to design a game that would engage the younger players, but really scare the older players. That’s why you have to connect some of the dots on your own as a player. This is not an approach we will always take, but in this case we wanted to deliver on the promised scares – but only for the players who wanted to look into the darker parts of the Thornton family saga.
Another important moment in the game that is left a little vague (for the sake of still being okay for younger players) is precisely what happened the night of Charlotte’s death. What had she discovered that would prompt her to be so secretive? Was it just that she wanted to hide the changed will? Or was there something more, something that would have prompted a really strong reaction from her relatives?
So mistermetropolis came up with this theory, which basically links Charlotte researching Jackson (something we know she did in the game) with the question of who was Clara’s father? If it’s Jackson Thornton, that would make Clara a product of incest. Which would be so creepy but so in keeping with this family’s sordid history, and it would without a doubt explain 1.) why Rosalie refused to tell Clara her father’s identity, 2.) why Charlotte began researching the family history the year after Jackson died (1988, I believe), and 3.) why Clara might flip out if Charlotte ever revealed what she found to her (that, plus being cut out of the family will? I MEAN). If you go into the notes on that post, you can follow up on some further discussion people had about it, for and against the theory.
HOWEVER: Nik Blahunka and Cathy Roiter participated in a podcast where they basically denied that was the intention. They answer the question about 2/3 of the way through. It’s a pretty definitive no--”too dark, too sad,” “it was really just that her mom never told her,” “it was no one related to her in any fashion.”
