From one big nerd with degrees in physics and math to another, congratulations my friend!

For the math ask: 2, 3, 4, 7, 25, and 51?
2. What math classes did you do best in ?
I did the best in my proofs class.
3. What math class did you like the most ?
I loved my proofs class and getting a feel for what it felt like to actually prove something. I also liked my linear algebra class because it was very abstract and theoretical but my professor also tied in a lot application and we did a lot of fun programming projects.
4. What math classes have you done the worst in ?
I did the worst in differential equation and probability. Not doing well in diff eqs was frustrating because I studied that subject in high school, but my professor was really hard. And I’ve just never done well with finite probability and specifically combinatorics, but I actually did a lot better with calculus-based probability.
7. What is it that you like about math ?
Honestly so much. I’ve always loved solving problems and find the abstraction of problems very fascinating. I also really like the philosophy behind math and it’s implications on how we can pose and solve problems, and how it can be used to solve problems in the real world.
25. Who is your favorite mathematician ?
Honestly I don’t know enough about contemporary mathematical research to have a decent answer, but I have always liked Évariste Galois and his life story ever since my friend got me into group theory.
52. Favorite casual math book ?
Definitely Matt Parker’s Things to Make and Do in the Fourth Dimension. The Mathematician’s Lament by Paul Lockhart is a close second, but it’s an essay not a book ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
For the math ask: 1, 2, 3, 4, 25, 29, 51, and 52?
1. What math classes have you taken?
Calculus 1 and 2, multivariable calculus, differential equations, and linear algebra
2. What math classes did you do best in?
Linear algebra and Calculus 2, but I was pretty much a B average.
3. What math classes did you like the most?
Linear algebra and differential equations.
4. What math classes did you do worst in?
multivariable calculus and differential equations
25. Who is your favorite Mathematician?
Euler probably. That dude did so much shit like omfg.
29. You’re at the club and Grigori Perlman brushes his gorgeous locks of hair to the side and then proves your girl’s conjecture. WYD?
Guess she’s his girl now.
51. Favorite casual math book?
I liked Nate Silver’s book, and I also liked Things to Make and Do in the Fourth Dimension by Matt Parker
52. Do you have favorite math textbooks? If so, what are they?
Not that I can think of no
mistertotality said: My father has dyslexia, so I’ve seen how much of a hindrance it can be on someone’s reading comprehension. I understand if you’re frustrated by this, but it’s impressive that you made it through college, because my father barely made it through high school.
I think that if I do have dyslexia, which I’m not even sure of really, maybe I’m just overreacting, the only reason I did it at all was because I’m really quick and learn through hearing things. Plus I’m decent with maths, and like 80-90% of physics is maths anyways, and the rest is stuff that I can just remember through having it told to me. It’s really a pain though when I had assignments like reading papers. It’d take me like 8 or 9 hours to read even a 5-ish page short paper like we were assigned, and I’d rarely remember/understand it until someone read it to me.
List 5 things that make you happy, then put this in the ask box of the last 10 people that reblogged from you! Have a nice day! :D
1. Dungeons & Dragons and Pathfinder RPG.
2. Commissions for other people’s characters. The money part is nice, but hearing people get excited about their characters and then bringing them to life is where it’s at.
3. Hanging out with my friends. They’re all just so good.
4. Seeing the people help each other
5. Helping people to learn about new things, or helping them expand their thinking.
shadyperfection, mistertotality, the-math-goddess I think I figured it out. I was over complicating and looking to solve for values of AC & DC to plug into DC/AC. Turns out it was way easier to just manipulate the sin law. Thanks for all of your help! I feel way better about this now. <3 cheers and sweet dreams/good day
Truths!
Tagged by mistertotality Rules: once you’ve been tagged you are supposed to answer the truths about you. At the end, choose 25 people to be tagged. You have to tag the person who tagged you. (Caveat: I will be breaking that 25 people rule, because I can!) What was your… Last beverage: Izze sparking juice Last phone call: The last call I received was a hang-up. The last call I made was probably to my mom. Last text message: "I'm glad :)" Last song you listened too: something on the radio in my car that I cannot remember. Last time you cried: a day or so ago Have you ever…: Dated someone twice: Yes, but I feel I need to defend myself here. We broke up the first time not due to incompatibility but due to external issues that just made it impossible to actually be there for each other. Been cheated on: Not that I know of. I'm pretty sure it's no, but I also don't really worry about that. Been drunk and threw up: Yes, back in college. Never again! List 3 fav colors: forest green, earthy brown (like gravel), and lavender. Last year did you… Make a new friend: Yes! Fallen out of love: Nope Laughed until you cried: Probably Found out who your true friends were: This is a loaded question. I always learn more about friends and how much they mean to me vs how much I mean to them. I don't think of them being "real" or not "real". Just different levels. General: Firsts: First Surgery: oral surgery to remove some pesky teeth and gums making my braces not work when I was a tween. First piercing: ears as a kid, but I assume they are closed up (the holes, not the ears!) First best friend: My neighbor, Brady. I've always had many male friends since I was a tomboy from infanthood. First sport you joined: Tee-ball with Brady! First vacation: Let's assume this means the first one I can remember. That would be visiting the Grand Canyon and Colorado. Right now: Eating: nothing, but I was eating some pita chips not too long ago. Drinking: nothing, but I had the Izze I mentioned earlier right after the pita chips. I’m about to: go to bed Your future: Want kids: Nope Get married: Perhaps Career: I am a teacher, and I'll probably continue to be a teacher for a long time. Which is better: Lips or eyes: They can't be compared. They both have their uses, after all! Hugs or kisses: Hugs Older or younger: it doesn't matter Relationship or hookup: I've not done mucho of either (I'll likely make a post about this one day), but I prefer meaningful relationships with the right people. I'm also not above enjoying time with people more casually if that's all we can be for each other. Troublemaker or hesitant: I'm becoming more of a troublemaker as I get older. Have you ever: Kissed a stranger: Yes Drank hard liquor: Yes Lost glasses or contacts: I've lost the sunglasses clip for my glasses, but I'm too blind to get far from my glasses without me wearing them. Broke someone’s heart: Yes, a friend who wanted to be more than that. Arrested: Nope Turned someone down: Yep Cried when someone died: Yes Fallen for a friend: Yes Do you believe in: Yourself:I do now Miracles: I think weird things happen. Sometimes they are good, which people call miracles. Sometimes they are bad, which people call freak accidents. It's all just nature and probability. Love at first sight: No, but I do think visual cues can cause you to lean toward a deeper attraction than would be typical. Santa: No, and if anyone writes "yes", you better be joking. Kiss on first date: depends Angels: It depends on your definition of "Angel". I don't know who has already done this (I've seen this on my dash a lot already), so in the interest of not retagging, how about anyone who hasn't done this already consider themselves tagged?
