In the dying light of evening, Adelie penguins cluster on ice floating just offshore of tiny Paulet Island. By morning, all these penguins would be gone - out fishing for krill or huddled back on Paulet, home to a colony of more than 100,000 penguins. On the northwestern side of the peninsula, Adelie and chinstrap penguin populations have dropped by half over the past 30 years, but on another island near here, on the northeastern side, scientists recently discovered a surprisingly healthy colony of nearly 1 million Adelies. One factor: ice. Sea ice, which helps feed the krill upon which penguins rely, is much more extensive on the peninsula's northeast side. On the west side sea ice is declining much more rapidly.

Mittermeier has fangs

:D I think this is what the words “I don’t even” were created for. :DDDD

They’re those cute little fangs that sometimes, but not always, hang out of characters’ mouth. Probably not quite yaeba, but maybe that’s the intention? That aside he looks pretty much the same he does in the OVA, only, like everyone else, more age-appropriate, and I guess more manga-esque. I really like this design! Possibly even more than Reuenthal’s.

……come on, Reinhard & Kircheis. The guy was drenched! How about you give him a bath and then, since his size is so different from either of you, let him lounge around in a towel or something until his clothes dry…

Roi’s outfit is impeccably clean even after spending all that time trudging through a marsh killing enemy soldiers. Imperial army tech: always focusing on the important things. Can’t have our soldiers look filthy.

I’ll never get enough of Reuenthal kneeling for Reinhard. Hnnng…

That aside, hm, this frames their first meeting and the basis of their relationship rather differently? The novel doesn’t really detail the circumstances of how they met, only that they met at Iserlohn and eventually became close friends. Here, they meet in battle, and Reinhard pretty much thinks that they’re so different in every way that normally they wouldn’t get along at all, and so their friendship is one that could only develop on the battlefield. Which is I guess one way to look at it? Certainly it’s interesting to think of how these two would ever get to the point of developing a friendship. (No wonder the anime had them meet in a barroom brawl. :D) But this approach certainly frames their dynamics in a slightly different way.

But Reuenthal calls Mittermeier his “other half” and says that since he has no living relatives, Micchi is the only person in his life that he can’t allow to lose. So…. XDDD *squeeing forever* I wonder if he’ll say the  “frankly the world would be a lot shittier place without him in it” line…
