Barbara Wright

Barbara, in all honesty, is one of the most important people in the Doctor Who universe.  She's the first companion to talk.  She, and her fellow teacher Ian Chesterton, realize that something is incredibly off about their student, Susan Foreman.  So, they follow her to the junkyard Susan calls home (Barbara even checked it out before hand to see if the address was an error)  and not only find out the truth about Susan... but they meet the Doctor.

Barbara is a history teacher, the first person to believe the Doctor when he says he's a time traveller and the box is bigger on the inside.  She is clever, caring, and brave.  She tried to change the Aztec civilization so that the Aztecs would NOT be remembered for their human sacrifices... and almost succeeded.  She came up with the plan to save the Sensorites by listening to them.  She took care of everyone she met.  She was the first person to meet the Daleks.  She helped save Marinus by beating up the mind controlling aliens, she drove over a Dalek with a bus, figured out the TARDIS was sentient and was trying to help them, and was almost executed at the French Revolution.  But, through it all, was amazingly kind, clever, and not afraid to stand up for herself. 

She yelled at the Doctor a few times since, unlike most companions, she was not in love with him.  The Doctor kidnapped her and Ian.  He blamed them for the issues he caused.  She got frustrated and point out where THE DOCTOR had gone wrong and with that, she started him actually caring for the Human Race.  The two of them ended up being very close later.  But through it all, Barbara was always fantastic. 

I love her so much.  She's my favorite companion.
