( * rocket approaches protocol in a serious manner. once she stands before him, she remains there in silence for a few passing moments before quietly telling him to follow her to the office. it’s only when the door closes behind them and rocket is seated at her desk that she begins speaking ; ) by all means, sit. ( * motions towards the chair ; ) now, what i have now is a bit of an order. i would say proposition or offer but you really don’t have choice or say in this. once i tell you, you have to take it. no matter what. it’s only because i thought this over for a while. it’s a privilege. ( * she leans back in her chair, interlocking her fingers ; ) now it’s not an official status able to be obtained here but it is a status of leadership. you get some perks out of this, you hear? ( * she smirks, tilting her head ; ) i’m gonna make you my right hand. i almost considered not doing it because you’re so young but you show lots of promise. you remind me of myself when i was your age – it’s another reason why i didn’t want to choose you. but you were more qualified than everyone. ( * she shrugs ; ) it’s a pity. we’re working on it. ( * leans forward, her elbows resting against her desk ; ) this means you’re pretty much above everyone other than me. you’re my right hand. no one gives you shit because you’re the top dog, ya hear? now go on. an official announcement is being made. ( * she flips her hair out of her face with a grin ; ) congrats, kid.
{&; he’s uneasy. he always expects the worst, especially from rocket, though he hasn’t done anything wrong. he has only ever showed his absolute best sides to her. he wracks his brain for any mistakes she could chide him for. he comes up with a plethora of them immediately, but no one other than him has ever noticed those. still, he sits down when told, and nods, because yes, an order. he only expected as much. there are rarely suggestions in vanguard that don’t end in loss of life if they aren’t taken into account. he listens– leadership, perks. suddenly he’s significantly more interested, but the pressure he feels is greater too. then comes right hand, and his face remains a mask of calm for the amount of internal unrest he feels. } well, if no one else can do it. {&; he sighs, though it’s his attempt at a joke, evidenced by the tiny smirk playing on his lips. unsurprising. of course, no one has the qualifications he does in this gang, even at his young age. he’s made sure of it. still, he snorts, amused. he nods in understanding again, and it’s only then that pride blooms in his chest, and he could almost smile, but he doesn’t. he’s really done it: accomplished the goal of becoming the best in vanguard, aside from those in control themselves. in truth, he doesn’t want the responsibility. he doesn’t like the leadership, as much as he likes the power. he just wants to be the best, and he is, so he supposes it’s a fair trade off. he didn’t expect to make it here so fast } understood. {&; he stands up from his chair, dipping his head to her in thanks } thank you. {&; he certainly deserves this position, for how hard he’s worked to get into rocket’s best graces– good was never quite good enough. still, with everything he knows about himself, it seems like an oversight on her part. sure, someone so good at handling information is good to have on your side. he has done nothing but prove his loyalty to her time and time again, but he’s capable of hiding so much with no one but her keeping an eye on him. how pathetic the rest of vanguard must be for the second in command to make someone who tried escaping from the gang last year her right hand. or maybe, she knows what she’s doing after all. if anyone is capable of his level of manipulation, and making people into pawns, it’s probably rocket. with this new position of power comes a larger target on his back– in her eyes, surely nothing but a benefit. truthfully, he thinks he has her exactly where he wants her. but is he exactly where he wants to be? that’s the question. the lingering, growing sense of dread in his chest suggests the answer is no. }
( no. now i’m never getting out. )
{&; he thinks that was surely her intention all along. still, he has the utmost confidence that he can turn her trap into something beneficial, too. after all, he doesn’t have a choice or say in this, either }
