Previous reblog makes me think of the mandatory sleep deprivation lecture they made us listen to yearly during residency.
Like. You are lecturing us, the residents, that sleep deprivation is Bad. That it's a technique used in brainwashing and torture (I kid you not that was a discussion point during the presentation). That staying awake for 17-19 hours is similar to functioning with a blood alcohol level of 0.05% (24 hours = 0.1%). You're putting the responsibility of finding adequate rest on residents, including the poor souls (surgery residents mostly) who are sometimes required to work 24+4 hours shifts.
(Also legally residents are only allowed to work 80 hours per week but I can promise I have met and heard of surgery and anesthesia residents who work way more than that and are told to lie when documenting their duty hours.)
The medical training system here in the US is appalling.
