THE ONLY SHANG TSUNGS I WILL ACCEPT tbh any other one is unacceptable.

Like don't get me wrong mk12/mk1 shang tsung looks good and had potential but i just don't feel it's a version worthy to be called SHANG TSUNG. (The script hold mr. Lee back. And i felt the same with artt butler as shang in the mk legends movies. But unlike artt butler,alan lee still while a valid take on the character. Doesn't really speak to me as SHANG TSUNG,the soul stealing sorcerer. More like an asian wannabe mcu loki copycat . And it's boring,and i hate it. It's whitewashed Hollywood schlock lvls of writing. Anyone who can't see that is hopeless. Like y'all at nrs wanna copycat mainstream shit so damn bad to stay relevant huh? When you know your competitors are doing better than you. So you gouge prices on a half baked game and hire random celebs to try to make it seem like you got shit. But you dont. You really dont. But anyways.

Again no shade. But it's not shang tsung. It's a fun and entertaining performance,and certainly a take on the character. Valid in its own right. But it's not shang tsung.

Outside of alan Lee's shang tsung being cute and funny and entertaining compared to everything else. What does his shang tsung really have to offer? Like legitimately,persuade me,woo me with your shang tsung. So far I've been interested but not sold anything. It's lukewarm. And the story narrative holds him back. And it sucks.

Because i wanna like mk12/mk1 shang tsung. But i can't 100% get into him. Outside of aesthetics and a tiny few things about him that's ok. But because of what he's attached to. It's hard to genuinely like that iteration.

Bonus Honorable mention: deadly alliance shang tsung.

Cary hiroyuki tagawa IS SHANG TSUNG.

The others are good as shang tsung but deserves their flowers just the same.

Alan Lee's shang has yet to convince me that he's truly earned his flowers. He's good at imitating but not convincing me his shang is SHANG TSUNG. Or worthy truly of being one without copycatting tagawa in infliction only.

(Again. Not a bad performance just it doesn't have any oomf that shang tsung both needs to be and needs to convey. Smug smarmyness can only do so much before it's annoying. He has potential but only if his shang no longer is attracted to a main game. And i doubt they will ever truly give him said potential)

You ever think that so called "ego" and "arrogance" was supposed to be put on kung jin and not kung lao?

Like they robbed us of a proper kung jin character arch development story to nerf and fuck over kung lao and sideline his amazing nephew. Just because they wanna treat kung jin as a brownie point for piss poor representation. I want a proper queer characters without these companies treating us like these seasonal passing fancys and pretty decor. Like somewhere out there is a kung jin. Is a person who relates to jin and wants to be seen and heard. And it pisses me off that NRS and WB do this. Let alone any damn fucking company.

Like queer characters and representation aren't your seasonal pumpkin spice lattes you can throw around when its convenient and take them away when you feel like it either.

And kung laos character shouldn't have to suffer because your writer NRS are incompetent at writing.

Kung lao is the supporting family figure. And while he may or may not understand completely. He is hella supportive and probably the only fucking family member that actually fucking cares for jin sincerely.

I feel kung laos "personality flaws" in mk11 should have been kung jins. And king Lao should be there to help him learn to cope and grow as a character.

Kung lao isn't arrogant. Nor is he "lazy" whomever wrote this in mk11 obviously doesn't like lao and is hella bias.

And low key homophobic. If not. Very passive aggressive towards kung jin.

AND I WILL NOT HAVE SLANDER ON MY BABY JIN!

It pisses me off we had an opportunity to have kung lao teach kung jin and pass the torch to him. Help guide him to greatness. Have him grow.

I have been a kung lao fan since i was 15. He was my first videogame crush. But beyond that he was a character i was really good at playing. I trained hard with him. And i fucking loved the character. And to have him be treated like shit pisses me off and makes me sad nobody else sees that how fucked up that is.

And kung jin. Sweet baby jin. You didn't deserve to be treated like a passing fad. You deserved your own proper arch. And honestly. I always saw jin as the troubled one struggling with pride. Not kung lao. Kung lao already had his character development. In fucking deadly alliance and deception. So why the fuck they went ass backwards is beyond me.

Nrs wrote themselves into a corner and they cant fucking make up their minds. And they shot themselves in the foot with this piss poor writing.

Wattpad has better story archs then offical "canon"

But more importantly above all else....

Kung lao shouldn't have to suffer.

Kung jin shouldn't have to suffer.

The lao/kung fam shouldn't have to suffer.

Lao mains,jin mains,fans of these babies in general shouldn't have to suffer.

For the incompetence of NRS writers.

You dont need to replace them to make them great. You dont need to nerf them to make them amazing. YOU DONT NEED TO FUCK OVER TWO AMAZING CHARACTERS TO WRITE A COMPELLING STORY!!!! NRS DO FUCKING BETTER.

Ok mini vent. I think most people can agree. Regardless of who your fave or main is.

But especially if you're old school fans like me. But hey even if you are new,some people who dont know know it doesn't feel right either. And that should be a clue as to why kung laos new characterization is bullshit.

The biggest crime NRS,boon,and game devs for 9,10,and 11 but especially 11,did was to make kung lao a mockery of what he is supposed to be,used to be,and actually is.

Arrogant my asscrack! He never was! His pride comes from his pride of being a warrior and his culture. His anger? Comes from his family being fucked over and his ancestor being killed (maybe wrongly im not sure dont quote me) like hanzo and sonya (maybe kuai or bi han) gets a revenge arch and nobody talks shit. But lao does it and suddenly its a problem ?! Like foh! Kung lao legit kicked quan chi and shang tsungs asses for killing off liu kang his oldest friend and brother. His shaolin bromie. Like ffs people. This man legit left the order to go fist fight these two bastards. (Whom i think is also awesome dont get it twisted. I love the bad guys too but narratively,yeah they deserved it). Like kung lao all he wanted to do was avenge his ancestors wrong death. Like fr. Thats it. Sure you could add struggles,pain,maybe jealousy,but dont be a douchenoodle obnoxious about it. And thats the problem. In mk11 they are caricatures of what their characters are supposed to be. 30yrs down the toilet for commercializing mk for people to "easily digest" but oh because it still has blood n gore they look past the bad writing?!

Like other gripes aside. Kung lao and liu kangs trashing of their characters burns me the most. Like no offense to people but this shit was my childhood,these two were like friends to me (abit i might have crushed haaaard of kung lao i wholeheartedly admit no shame there. But that aside) so for them to be treated in canon like they're doing. Is just disrespectful. It's like someone trashing your friend. It hurts. But also its just wrong. Period.

No i will forever be salty how they did him so wrong and continue to do him wrong.

Kung lao deserves better. (They all do even liu kang which also pisses me off because lao and him are equals and are supposed to be equals but these dumbass writers and some people think liu is goku for some damn reason and it mocks what liu is supposed to be. Firey but humble. Lao is supposed to be the level headed,chill humble one. And also more deadlier than liu but he holds back on purpose. Liu had to work for that humbling,and he did. Both are bros and friends and y'all treat them like dirt and pit them against each other for no reason. And it pisses me off. But that's besides the point)

Mk11 cons: where do i start? Legit the whole game can be summed up to kindergarteners and dudebros arguing over whos better and its nothing but a dick measuring contest cept all the writers have small micro penis energy and jack shit care for anything but a greedy quick buck and couldn't write a proper fighting game story if their lives depended upon it at gun point.

Mk11 pros: cary hiroyuki tagawa back as shang tsung. That's it.
