I need to fix my Ac... #mkvgti #hatchgangordontbang (at Hood-County)
Today we ended up doing the centre resonator delete. Bought the full back section off a buddy of mine to avoid having the cut my own out. Now when I decide the noise is too much, it's an easy swap back, rather than re-welding etc
Surprisingly everything actually fits and it's all much more secure than I expected. The splitter rods turned out to be the perfect length as well which was nice. Definitely very pleased with the final product.
Today was spent finishing the splitter off. I decided to use angle brackets to fasten the fins, as the ACM was far to thin and brittle to bend. After attaching everything together, I gave it another 2 coats of black, and 2 coats of clear to cover up all the scratches and smears. Next is to try and fix it to the car.
We had to leave the glue to dry, so I came back in the evening to refine the shape, smooth it all out and give it its first coat of black.
Next was to actually attempt to make the splitter itself. The first challenge was to actually transport ACM. Unfortunately we could only get a 3mm sheet, which turned out to be far too thin. Luckily we managed to get several cutouts from the 1 sheet. We used a router with the copy cutter to trace the MDF template. The aluminium layer way far too thin to bend, so we had to remove the fins from the side. The final thickness was 2 layers of the 3mm glued together.
Splitter template was finally nested and CNC'd this morning. Looking pretty good, but needs about 1cm or so removed as it overhangs abit more than I would like. Hopefully once refined, Olly will have sorted the ACM and we can get to making the final piece.
