Monday is done and so is the first day of the UN General Assembly. Man, traffic sucked here in NYC and its only day one. Anyhow, here's my MLB Immaculate Grid number 539 from Sunday September 22.
This one has some favorite players. Look at that smile on the face of Luis Sojo. Who wouldn't smile with having a 13-year career primary as a utility player and winning four rings with the Yankees (1996/1998 - 2000.) Sojo was the kind of player who could sit for a week and be ready when manager Joe Torre called on him to play. He played every position but pitcher and catcher. And speaking of catchers.
Tony Peña is one of my favorite catchers of all time. His innovative catching stances were imitated by little leaguers, high schoolers, collegiate and professional catchers. And Peña caught for the majority of his 18-year career. He's one of those former managers who never got another chance to manage after his first job. He managed Kansas City for three full seasons and part of a fourth winning AL Manager of the year in 2003. The Royals went surprisingly 83 - 79. Someone give him another shot!!!
Have you ever met anyone who says they hated Fred McGriff? I can't say that I have. He was a premier power bat pre-steriod era and a solid first baseman. The criticisms of him was &that he was traded alot. But teams traded for him, not traded him away. The call from the Hall was well deserved.
Thats all for now folks. On to grid number 540.
