In 1920, Babe Ruth got into a car accident on the way to a game in Massachusetts. He escaped with just a few scratches, hitchhiked, and arrived at the game on time. #FACT
In the history of baseball uniforms, there have been a lot of interesting eras. But none as interesting as the first half season of 1882 when, for some strange reason that probably had to do with selling more uniforms, instead of symbolizing the team, the uniforms would denote the player's position in the field. So, for example, the first bases, as Piper shows here, would wear scarlet-stripped shirts. The only way to know which team they were part of, would be by their stockings. This was stopped after half a season because honestly, no one could tell what was going on in the field! (and for a good reason, they were called "Clown costumes"). They tried to bring them back in 1888, but thankfully, never again!

9/11: World Series & A President’s Pitch
George W. Bush said nothing to the crowd the night he took the mound at Yankee Stadium [on October 30, 2001], only a few miles from where he had shouted through a bullhorn to people digging through the wreckage of the World Trade Center less than two months earlier.
Wearing a bulletproof vest, the president flashed a thumbs-up to the crowd, then threw a perfect strike before Game 3 of the 2001 World Series between the New York Yankees and the Arizona Diamondbacks. It was a signal to the country that the healing could begin.
“It was so moving, so powerful, that it lifted our nation,” sportscaster Jim Gray said Sunday night at the George W. Bush Presidential Center. “What President Bush told us without uttering a single word, was that we could once again attempt to carry on our lives. … What an amazing symbol it was.” Dallas Morning News.

Miami University Indoor Baseball team circa 1905. As far as I can work out with a bit of googling is that indoor baseball was established to be able to play baseball in the winter months and it eventually evolved into the game of Softball. Anyone know more of that history? Is that the gist of it? Anyway, these guys look like a stout team.
