It takes an awful lot to move a library! With the closure of our home MLK Library for a major 3-year major modernization project, DCPL Special Collections staff has been busy inventorying, packing, unpacking, re-inventorying, and preparing to resume public service with our partners at the Library of Congress and the Historical Society of Washington D.C.
Sign up for our email list to keep up with our collections, events, and research information.
Research by appointment resumes May 9th. We look forward to seeing you again! More information on collection locations and how to research at dclibrary.org/research/appointments

I had good Black History moment with the Essential Theatre groups Reverb and NProcess at Martin Luther King Library on the 5th Floor. I learned plenty of our (African-American/Black/Negro/Colored People) spirituals and songs before my generation time. Thank you District of Columbia Public Library for hosting.
May 1st — DC treasure, George Pelecanos, talks about his new novella BUSTER, at the MLK Central Library. Co-sponsored by Solid State Books who generously gave out free books to everyone in attendance. A-mazing!
And... your fault for missing another incredibly cool, and FREE, event at the DC Public Library. Ha!
Join San José Public Library’s California Room and San José State University's Africana, Asian American, Chicano and Native American Studies Center (AAACNA) as we celebrate San José’s history of lowriding through photographs, film and other historical memorabilia.
