What a fantastic comic really showing off the Celebration Theme! Wonderful work, JayDee! I love the heartwarming ending, really captures the spirit of the Pitch family!
Melody Song’s Short Story!
Pitch Perfect was trying to get her cutie mark with Castle Crasher and Codebreak. They had been working for hours, and they needed to figure it out soon. “Come on Per! We need to finish before your brother comes back!” Castle called out to Pitch, who was trying to balance on the kitchen table while holding some of her brother’s merchandise.
“This is tricky, gimme a sec.” Pitch responded, tossing Sale’s spare briefcase onto the table where she’d picked it up.
“Code, what’s the status on Sales?” Castle asked her brother, who checked the clock.
“Sales is due back from his door-to-door work any minute now! Hurry Per!” Code reported, and Pitch, now worried, gave a shout as a container of hoof cream fell off her head, the top coming off as it hit the side of the table. The cream splattered onto the floor, a few feet from where Castle was. As Code ran to get a rag to wipe it up, one of the key-ring-that-finds-you products fell off the tip of Pitch’s nose, flew across the room, and whopped Code on the forehead.
“Ow!” Codebreak cried, startling Pitch, and making her lose her balance. As Pitch wobbled on the table, the door opened, revealing Sales Pitch.
“Hey Chewie! I’m back!” he called, and his pet chinchilla chittered from the other room, but in the kitchen, Pitch gave a cry of surprise and fell, hitting the floor and slipping in the hoof cream. Castle and Code tried to help her up, but ended up slipping and falling, Castle on her butt, Code on his face. Sales heard the resulting crash and went to investigate. You can imagine his surprise when he found the three best friends slipping around in hoof cream, and all his merchandise scattered around them.
“What did you three do?” Sales exclaimed, and they looked up at him.
“Sales! Hi. We were just… um… cleaning up.” Pitch stammered
“Per. What were you doing?” Sales demanded, and Pitch sighed, carefully standing up in the cream.
“Trying to get my cutie mark in balancing stuff. After you said it doesn’t have to be a pun on your name, I decided to try this.” Pitch explained sheepishly, and Sales facehoofed.
“Per, when I said I could help you find your cutie mark, I didn’t mean you could walk in here and use my merchandise to play circus!” Sales said, voice rising, and Pitch winced.
“Sorry Sales.” Pitch apologized “Forgive me?”
“You’re my sister, Per, so of course I forgive you. But I want you three out of my house so I can clean this up. Why not go play in the park or something?” Sales suggested, using his unicorn magic to lift up his merchandise. Pitch, Castle, and Code trooped out of the house and towards the park, sighing as they sat down on a bench there.
“Maybe I should try singing again,” Pitch moped, and Castle nudged her.
“Cheer up, Per, at least he didn’t threaten to tell your parents,” Castle consoled Pitch, who sighed.
“Yeah, but I want to get my cutie mark,” Pitch whined, jumping off the bench and beginning to sing, with all her heart.
“It’s been years but no mark for me/there’s no way that I can see/I want to get my cutie mark/but my options are getting stark/cause everything’s been tried/but I’m afraid my hooves are tied/and I don’t know what to do,” Pitch sang, her voice was better than the other times, strangely, and in a flash of light, her cutie mark appeared.
Her mark was of an eighth note the same color green as her mane, it seemed to swirl onto her flank when it appeared. Pitch let out a squeal of excitement, jumping up and down.
“Mom! Dad!” Pitch cried, bursting into her house and startling her parents away from what they were doing. Her brother, Pitch Black, stood from his chair.
“What’s up Perfect? You see any of those blue-tie ponies?” he asked sharply.
“No! I got my cutie mark!” Pitch yelled, showing them her flank.
“Honey, that’s wonderful! We’ll have to celebrate!” her mother, Pitch Forward, exclaimed.
Two days later, at Pitch’s cuteceneria, she was talking with Code and Castle when Sales walked up.
“Hey sis, I’m so proud of you. And sorry for, you know, getting so mad at you,” Sales said.
“You’re my brother, Sales, so of course I forgive you,” Pitch joked, mimicking her brother.
“Well, time for my speech, gotta go,” Pitch said, running up to the couch. The only ponies there were Castle, Code, her brothers, parents, and Sale’s friends, but Pitch was excited to speak anyway.
“Hello, every pony. I would like to thank all of you for coming to my cuteceneria, it means a lot. I’d also like to thank my two best friends, Castle Crasher and Codebreak, for always trying to help me get my cutie mark. And my mother and father, for telling me to be patient, then it will come. Lastly, I’d especially like to thank Sales Pitch, if he hadn’t chased me out of his house two days ago for making a mess, I never would have started singing and gotten my cutie mark,” Pitch announced, and Sales glared at her.
“Hey! Why am I the bad guy?!” Sales asked, and they all laughed.
“But I’m thanking you! Oh, and thanks to Mom and Dad, for raising a snooty stallion that gets bugged by his little sister,” Pitch added, before running off as Sales raced after her.
“Should we go help her?” Codebreak asked his sister, who shrugged.
“Well, it is a celebration.” Castle responded. “Why not?”
The twins ran after the two siblings, tackling Sales and getting caught up in his wings.
“Tag! You’re it!” Castle yelled, jumping off and dashing away, followed by Code.
“Now this is a party!” Pitch yelled, leading the way through the hallway as Sales’ friends helped him up, then joined in the chase, Black fast behind.
Awesome job incorporating all of the characters, Melody! It was a super cute story! (I do need to clarify that singing is NOT actually Per’s special talent, just to avoid confusion later among all you readers. XD But it was a very sweet story, and I’m sure the judges were as impressed as I that you wrote a SONG!
