“Were you going to tell me?” Juan’s voice sounds from behind Lara, startling her, and with a hand pressed to her chest she turns.

“Jesus Juan, you scared the hell out of me,” Lara's voice is soft as she studies the man across from her His face is hard to read except for the line creasing his forehead.

He's upset.

“Juan, what is it?” she asks taking a step towards him surprise filling her when he takes a step back. “Babe?”

“Dear Miss. Shepherd, we are proud to announce that you have been selected to participate in the two-year writing fellowship program at the University of Iowa…,” Juan’s voice trails off as he lifts his eyes to look at her.

“I got in?” Her voice is soft as she takes the paper from his hands, eyes scanning the page. “Oh, my God, I got in!” She can't contain her excitement. Never in a million years did she think she would make it in.

“Are you going to go?” The question brings her back down to earth and lifting her eyes she feels her excitement drain away. There is no happiness to be found on the face of the man she loves, where she hoped to find support she finds a mix of confusion and anger.

“Juan, do you understand what this could mean for me?” she demands and when she’s met with stony silence something inside of her snaps. “They accept fifty people a year Juan, fifty, and I’m one of them…how do you not understand how big of a deal this is for me?”

“I understand all right, I understand that you went behind my back and applied for a two-year residential program, you know what, you want to go? Go! I don’t fucking need you…”

“Juan,” she calls out for him, but she's met with the slamming of the front door in her face and with her shoulders slumping she wonders just what the hell she’s supposed to do.

It took four months to save up for the move. Four months of planning, and packing, and setting things in order so the transition from California to Iowa would be as painless as possible.

Everything has worked out in Lara’s favor. Everything save for Juan.

She doesn’t know where she stands with him as it’s been four months since they last spoke. She’s been effectively frozen out of his life, calls and texts going unanswered, not to mention that he’s become the king of avoidance. She's certain some of his brothers have been working with him on that front but that's not really all that surprising. 

And as she stands, back resting against her car she stares out across Charming. Everything seems so quiet and still, and not for the first time since deciding to take this opportunity she knows she’s going to miss this place. Letting out an unsteady breath she kicks the tire and wonders why she thought he’d show up; four months’ worth of text messages and phone calls have gone unanswered, so why would he come now, just because she’s leaving?

Shaking her head, she turns, footsteps faltering only when she finds Juan behind her, hands tucked in the pockets of his favorite black hoodie. Misery is written all over his face and she wants nothing more than to reach out to him but she doesn’t know if she’ll be welcome.

“Hi,” the words float through the air as she stares at him and in response he closes the distance between them, his hands coming up to cup her face, his lips warm on hers, and suddenly the ache his absence caused fades away. She knows she should be pissed and maybe on some level she is but none of that matters, not when the taste of him bursts on her tongue.

He rests his forehead against hers as she cries and squeezing her eyes closed she holds on tight.

“I didn’t want to go away with you hating me,” her voice shakes despite how hard she tries to keep it calm.

“I could never hate you,” Juan insists pulling back so he can brush the hair from her face, “I’m sorry I was such a dick…I just…I’m not good at goodbyes…”

“Is that what this is? Good bye?” she asks and when his response is to just shrug his shoulder she links her hands behind his neck. “Juan, I don’t know if I can do this without you…I have to know you’ll be here…promise me you’ll be here…”

“Lara…”

“Juan, please…”

“It’s just two years, right?” he asks and nodding he presses his lips to her forehead. “I’ll be here.”

“Always?”

“Always…”

Idk it just feels too sudden. I was expecting The Wonderful World to go on for like a couple more years. It would have seemed normal if it ended with straight The Mickey Mouse shorts but they made a whole new series and it ran just one season?? (Released in two parts and additional 4 specials can count another season)

I am actually not mad. Shorts have been around for a decade now. They have surely made their mark in Mickey's history and television approach. They have left their mark to the point Mickey's official Facebook is operated in this style and they even have a whole ride at toontown.

The only thing I'm sad about is that we don't know when we will get this type of Mickey and Friends content again ( please we just got to the fab five hanging out doing weird stuff together type shorts)

Also I really hope we see this art style again.

(Disney won't let it go that easily they want that money also even about ten years later they are one of the most watched cartoons on Disney plus alongside none other than clubhouse)
