Regarding Koyomi's Immortality, and the meatshielding he used it for
(as of Hanamonogatari)
Araragi Koyomi uses his immortality as a crutch, in a self destructive fashion. It does beg the question of how much he values his life, or rather, how little he does.
It's not a good thing to rely on- lots of problems aren't solved by his death, and he gets scolded for it.
A small silver lining at least, is that girls can hit him as hard as they want and he lives that. They can release their anger and jealousy and let loose with minimal* consequences.
It's unrealistic, but it IS satisfying. To rip someone in half when they stand in your way. To punch a hole into someone out of hatred and envy. To drink the blood out of a vampire in a twist of irony (although this one was also self sacrificial)
It takes time for him to stop using himself as a punching bag for someone else's problems.
When he first meets black hanekawa, Shinobu bailed him out after he misused the sword. What a stupid plan, honestly. He could have looked so cool wielding it properly, but instead, he opted into swallowing it, and letting her rip him in half so that she'd cut herself on it. He figured she'd lash out. His plan hinged on her lashing out- violently.
Black Hanekawa did enjoy that though, and why wouldn't she. This bozo was getting in her way- Araragi didn't understand anything. And even after that, he assumed that the issue was basically solved.
And in the end, he was incapable of suppressing Black Hanekawa. Shinobu did a temporary fix.
He confronts Suruga Kanbaru on his own, probably because he didn't want Senjougahara to hate Kanbaru. He assumes he can take the hits and win somehow, and gets overwhelmed, and has no plan beyond that. Oshino Meme had to cover for him by calling in Senjougahara, who chastised him.
She knew that he's like this. She knew that he was the sort of person who would do something stupid. I forget how much of Kizu she was informed of by then, if that was even brought up, but maybe most of it. They did talk in class a bunch, and probably spoke a lot outside of it.
No friends, no future.
Maybe her way of trying to appeal to his self destruction was to threaten to destroy the things he thought he was protecting. If he dies for someone, Senjougahara will kill them.
It's enough to get him to consider trying to live, even if it isn't for himself.
Senjougahara dealt with Kanbaru's anger.
And then, Black Hanekawa again, the second time.
This was a team effort.
Araragi gave Mayoi a lot of credit for this one after the events of Jiangshi happened, but it's telling that Black Hanekawa held back.
She definitely held back against Araragi. She knew where Shinobu was. She gave him hints the whole time. She was there in Kizu. She was explicitly involved in forcing the decision that made Araragi NotSoHuman forever, and Shinobu NotSoVampire forever.
She knew, at that point, that the fool she had a crush on was short sighted and could only see what was in front of him.
Maybe she felt responsible for the state Shinobu was in.
She got her hits in, to provoke him. Maybe for her own self satisfaction.
She might only know what she knows, but she knows a whole lot.
I still hope for the day that Tsubasa Hanekawa catches more than a break.
Kizu was a whole ordeal, for both Hanekawa and Araragi. Man just rocked up and probably thought he was going to die, but never really digs into why he did what he did. At the very least he does try to survive whatever ordeal he's facing after gaining immortality.
But man, Hanekawa, ough. A miraculous spring break filled with fantasy, have your life saved by a freshly vampired classmate, you're both involved in the supernatural now, and then Golden Week, and then...-
Well, there he goes meatshielding again. It's no wonder she figured out immediately where Shinobu was.
And this, now.
But she WAS holding back. She put up the perfect opportunity for Araragi to call in Shinobu.
And for the second time, Black Hanekawa is suppressed.
