Mobar & Co, 4884 Huntington Dr. South, Los Angeles (El Sereno), CA 90032
Mobar started as a mobile espresso bar and recently opened a brick and mortar café in downtown El Sereno. The business owner’s family is from El Salvador and they have a long history working on coffee farms. Their coffee is sourced from a small coffee farm in El Salvador and the beans are roasted by Mobar.
They serve drip coffee, cold brew, espresso drinks, chai, and tea. During my visit, the food options were limited to muffins that looked like Costco muffins, corn bread, and carrot cake.
Cappuccino ($4.50): Better than the other Latino-roasted coffee places I’ve been to (those tend to be strong and harsh) – more mellow with complex flavors
Corn bread ($2.25): Small but nice, tender and sweet – no corn kernels though
There’s a parking lot in the rear. It says there’s a time limit of 2 hours but I don’t think someone checks too often. I noticed someone who seemed to be living in his truck parked in that lot.
The shop is in a grungy area and the sidewalks aren’t so clean. There were lots of little flies hovering around outside. A couple of homeless people walked by while I was sitting outside. Seating is pretty limited – two tables inside and two small tables outside. They sell signed books by local authors.
Coffee beans are available for purchase. They host a donut pop-up on Sundays. Oh and they have a rewards program.
4 out of 5 stars.
