Sophont Species of the planet Craidaca

The Mobeleth are a sophont species of gargantuan proportions and are the largest intelligent species in the known universe, discovered on the planet Craidaca in the year 3823. Their planet is rich with fatty fruits that their species learned to farm, providing their browsing lifestyle with the nutrients necessary to evolve large, intelligent minds on par with humanity. This resource caused their numbers to expand more rapidly than the fruit could be grown to sustain themselves. Because of this, they supplemented this diet with meat and formed an omnivorous hunting culture to survive. Because they effectively only have one grasping limb, in the form of an elongated version of their radula, cooperation is an essential and deeply integral aspect of their society, with their villages forming closely knit, family-like ties between all members, raising their young communally. Another aspect of their anatomy pushing the importance of high sociality is their reproductive system. Mobeleth cannot reproduce without a third partner. This third biological sex carries the offspring in its specially designed womb, a feature that the "females" of this species lack. In order to produce viable offspring, the female must pass the fertilized egg on to the third partner through a retractable ovipositor. This strategy would severely limit the numbers of most earth creatures, however the tight social bonds these creatures form have allowed not only the Mobeleth, but several other species in this planet's history to evolve human-like intelligence and colonize all climates of their globe. These close bonds have also however led to a fervent xenophobia of potentially dangerous outsiders, leading them to nearly drive the two other surviving sophont species on their planet to extinction in the name of tribalism. Upon contact and trade with the Ecosystem (intergalactic community), many of their more traditionalist cultural practices have mellowed considerably upon exposure to new ideas and perspectives, not to mention the introduction of expanded resources. Mobeleth are typically associated with wisdom and authority, their species producing some of the universe's most renowned great thinkers.
