 This past August, I was lucky enough to help out at the Vampire Diaries Creative Convention at the Ian Somerhalder Foundation booth! I loved getting to meet so many different volunteers and crew members! It was amazing! One of the best parts of the convention was getting to meet Ian Somerhalder, the founder of ISF!

I really enjoyed educating people who were interested in ISF! Everyone was so interested in learning how they can get involved with the foundation! I also really liked giving people shirts that came with a donation. It was great knowing that all of the donations were going to the foundation! We had these really cool social media squares that you could take your picture in and I loved seeing all of the people taking there pictures and hashtaging #ISFbooth and #TVDdallas. The whole weekend was so wonderful and I hope to be able to participate next year.

MobSTIR Luke tells us all about his amazing ISF fundraiser!

“On Sunday, August 2, 2015, we (my mom Kelly, myself, Fellow ISF MobSTIRS Hannah and Leah and their mom Jessica) held a "Show Your Talent, Talent Show" to raise money AND awareness of ISF!  I wanted to do an event where kids AND adults participate! I thought of the talent show because no matter what your age is, we all have a talent! I hung up posters in my community about the show & asked people to contact my mom to sign up. I also told everyone I knew about the event! Let me tell you, it was AWESOME! Not many people signed up to do the Talent Show, but that didn't stop us! Fellow MobSTIRS Hannah, Leah, and their mom, Jess, came down to help us out. The talent show took place down at the dance hall in my neighborhood which is on a lake in Derry, NH! It was really hot on Sunday, which meant people wanted to be in the nice water and not in a hot dance hall. We decided to bring the talent show outside to all the people at the beach!

Hannah, Leah and I put on a little show for the viewers! We went around to the people and asked them to fill out the MadLib that we were going to use for the play. While we were doing that, I took the time to talk to people about ISF and if they knew what it was about. A lot of the adults had never heard of ISF and were surprised to hear that a celebrity started such a great foundation. We showed off our talent to the people on the beach by putting on a play called Little Purple Riding Hood. We got a few laughs and the best part was we had fun!!’

MobSTIR Ellexia shares more outdoor adventures with us! Here’s what she has to say:

“Hi ellexia here, today I went to st columbs park and I made a home for bugs out of wood, I climbed trees, rolled down hills, made art out of leaves and saw squirrels. It was fun and I love exploring nature!“

The knees were worn out of our jeans, so we made them into shorts. That left us with the “legs” of the jeans. Being environmental warriors, we used these scraps to make some gift bags.

This project uses scissors, sewing machine and hot glue gun. Please have an adult help and not do this on your own.

Here’s how we made these cute little gift bags:

     -First cut the "legs” of the jeans off at the height you want to make the little bags.

     -Then flip the part you cut for the bag inside out and sew closed one end.

     -Now turn the bag back right side out. You should now see the jean material facing you.

     -The top of the hemline of the jean (that use to be the bottom of the pant) is now the top of the bag. You can fold it over or leave it longer.

Using the left over jean material we made a flower and a heart for an accent piece for the front of the bag. This was easy to do, just use a pencil to draw the design and cut it out. We used the “wrong” side of the jean material to give it a different color. We hot glued the pieces onto the bag. We also added a few buttons we had from some other clothing scraps we use for projects.

We cut a long strip of the jean and hot glued it a few inches on the back side of the bag.we are using it as a tie for the top of the bag. You could also use some ribbon would be nice too.

We can’t wait to try something else with some of the other jean scraps.

MobSTIR Ellexia shares with us some of the fun things she’s done this summer: “today I went for a picnic at the park. There was a dog show there and all the dogs were adorable. I saw a squirrel but before my mammy could take a photo it ran up the tree. I took my shoes and socks off and walked on the grass, it tickled my feet!”
