Gases are generated in him; he swells to a prodigious magnitude; becomes a sort of animal balloon. - Moby Dick

Review: Moby Dicks - Spiders EP
By Sonam Parikh
It’s distorted garage punk that powers through the Moby Dicks' new EP, made up of three songs and clocking in at under six minutes. It’s a short amount of time, but the band get their point across with time to spare; they can make some noise. Of the three, I most enjoy the first, “Always Be Around”. It’s a quick punk refrain that’s fuzzy and energetic. The second song, “Spiders in the Night”, is far more poppy – it's reminiscent of a candied Ramones song. The third is an evolved departure from its predecessors in that it’s a lot more polished. Moby Dicks consist of two current members of Myelin Sheaths and two ex-members of Endangered Ape. Ample evidence of their lineage is evident in the sound of the Moby Dicks’ latest EP, Spiders (Southpaw Records). The band has a bastion of energy and potential. Though the recording is rough (and the band seems to play with a broken drum at times), I’m excited to watch the evolution of this band. Buy the EP here.
