I would rather be a fairy who tricks mortals, because I’m all about stirring the pot.

Hi how are you? I just wanted to say that I love your stories and I also wanted to ask u something , do u think the fae curse as in say bad words like us mortals do ? Or do they just speak like in the old Shakespeare years ?

Hi!! I’m fine, tho a little tired because my body always decides to wake up at the same hour no matter how much I sleep :’D

I have no idea if fairies swear, but I guess they do (even in Shakespearian language?) because.... I tend to think it’s a bit of a natural thing. Swearings come out pretty easily. 

But there are a lot of different versions of faes and fairies depending what you’re reading (I mean, fairy tales present you with benevolent fairies that would never do harm, and some stories from fae folklore give you lil bitches who’d take your first born for a corn chip). In the end, I find it interesting to see how each artist or author decides to pictures them, what they decide to take from the myths and the folklore, and how they sometimes turn it into something way more modern! (Holly Black is my fav faerie author for example)

So I like the idea of fairies having a very flowery language as much as I like them being way more “modern” and swearing like sailors. Or both combined. 

(On a side note, I decided to make the Fæs in SoQ swear like us, because I find that funnier that you have them talking super elegantly and in the middle of that you get a “FUCK” because they brutally got more casual. Mortals of Qelt each have swearings depending on their region (Lasair uses “curse it” or “hex it” a lot), but Fæs are the ones that swear like us with “fuck” and “shit”.)

“You check out Archie’s Facebook today?”

Pongo’s bark beats him to the response.

“Aww!” Emma coos. “Does someone miss their daddy?”

All the same, Killian smiles. Seeing Emma baby talk the cricket’s dog is positively adorable.

Killian sits beside Emma on their couch and gives Pongo’s head a hearty rub. Pongo rewards it with a slobbery kiss.

“Not too worry, boy. He’ll be back in just a few days, though you may not recognize him if that tan in his new profile picture is anything to go by.”

“Looks like Orlando’s treating him right.”

“I still can’t believe he actually enjoyed that ridiculous world. I still have nightmares of that disgusting excuse for a Captain Hook that ‘Walt Disney’ created.”

“To be fair, his counterpart there is...a bit more accurate. And cuter.” Emma then turns to Pongo who’s contently laying in her lap. And the baby talk returns. “But not as cute as you!”

Killian turns to Pongo. “It appears that you’ve given my wife a case of puppy love. I do wonder if you’ll surrender your hold on her someday.” Even as he speaks though, a smile bursts through like a cork from a champagne bottle.

He’s not afraid to admit that whatever magic this dog has transfixed on Emma,  it’s gotten him as well.

“Never!” Emma says, still baby talking Pongo. Pongo sinks his head further into her knee. Love fills his wife’s eyes. 

“I wouldn’t have it any other way.”

“Should we get a dog?”

“Would you like one?”

“Would you?”

They look down at their furry companion. 

With that, they have their answer.

“But can we take care of a dog? Our jobs don’t leave a lot of free time.”

Killian can’t help but frown. “That’s a good point.” 

Still he doesn’t want to give up on this prospect, and neither does Emma. They both sadly smile as they absentmindedly pet their now asleep -- and snoring -- furry friend.

So he thinks. He thinks about the factors of caring for a dog, and how they can lessen them. 

It doesn’t take long for him to find an answer.

“Perhaps we can adopt an older dog, like Pongo. They often make for less maintenance, and I’m sure your father could help us find a dog whose sufficiently housebroken.”

Emma takes to the idea like a duck to water. 

“And Henry would love a dog.”

Killian suddenly has a mischievous thought. It’s a bit underhanded, but he doesn’t wish to let the idea go without at least trying it with Emma first. “Maybe we could make it seem like it was his idea and give him the old responsibility speech and lessen the burden on ourselves.”

Despite what Killian thinks is in store for him, Emma smirks. “That’s some shifty thinking.”

“Well, I am a shifty pirate.”

Giggling, Emma kisses him. 

“I won’t do that to him, but we can say we’ll get a dog if he’s willing to pitch in and help us out with one.”

“A nice marriage of our ideas.”

“Not the only nice marriage.”

Once again, they kiss. It’s only when they part that Pongo decides to wake from his nap and get off of them. 

And then they seen the patches of black and white hair sprawled all over their clothes.

“Still got a soft spot for dogs?”

“Eh, I’ve got a bone to pick with him, but just like the dog we’ll get, he’s still fur-fect to me.”
